Silly Bolivians

Marissa's fun filled fact du jour

Did you know...

That in Bolivia they have a religious celebration called the Day of the Skulls.
Well what is this said Day of the Skulls celebration... well exactly what it says... Bolivians keep close relatives' skulls at homes as a macabre talisman and they all flock to the cemetery chapel once a year (November 8) to have the skulls blessed in veneration and to bring themselves good luck in the future... now in some cases... there's still a little flesh on the skulls but all in all it's a joyous celebration. Now if that's not a fine example of the obsession of death I don't know what is. Cultures never cease to amaze me! But in the end of the day... please keep my skull attached to the rest of my bones...thanks for the thought though...
