Snagged from
lokifan. I'm only a little late :)
Your main fandom of the year?
I'd have to say Harry Potter. It's the fandom I wrote the most fics for in 2017 (15 fics on AO3!), and the one I concentrated the most on expanding my writing with more female characters and more femslash. Plus I wrote a 15k big bang fic for it! For someone who usually writes like 1k fics at the last minute before a deadline, that was a really big deal for me :)
Your favourite film watched this year?
Oh man, this is difficult bc I watched a lot of really good movies in 2017. Like a lot a lot. I have a movie watching problem lol I think for movies that came out in 2017, it'd have to be a tie between Power Rangers, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Greatest Showman. Honorable mention goes to Atomic Blonde and Girls Trip. For movies I watched in 2017 but came out before, it's a tie between John Wick and Ondine. Honorable mention goes to Crimson Peak, The Three Musketeers, and Attack the Block.
Though I feel like if I'd managed to find a showing of The Shape of Water I could go to (whyyyy is it at so few theaters??), that would have blown everything else out of the water (pun intended lol).
Your favourite book read this year?
Dear Fahrenheit 451: Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks: A Librarian's Love Letters and Breakup Notes to the Books in Her Life by Annie Spence. I got it in a giveaway and read it while travelling to LA bc it seemed like a nice, low stress read. It was, but it was also a lot more poignant than I'd thought it would be. Plus it gave me some good recs to check out later!
Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Can I just say the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman even though I only heard it during the movie? It was really good, and I'm definitely going to have to get myself a copy bc I need it in my life so I can listen again and again.
Your favourite TV show of the year?
A tie between Midnight, Texas and The Gifted. I feel like both of those shows did/are doing such a good job of showing characters who are outcasts from society and the (sometimes dysfunctional) families they create for themselves. Both of which are things I am so into. Honorable mention for shows I watched in 2017 but came out before goes to Grace and Frankie and The Great British Baking Show. I've been doing a lot of Netflix watching lol
Your favourite DW/LJ community of the year?
I suppose
comment_fic? I really enjoy that comm even though I don't get to fill prompts from there nearly as often as I like. But I do love the opportunity to prompt all kinds of things and hope that someone will write something for it! Plus I have a lot of fun hosting themes for the week.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Buzzfeed Unsolved <3 I'm not usually into youtube videos, but I kept seeing stuff about BFU and liked the sound of it (true crime! ghost hunting! the fondly antagonistic dynamic!), so I gave it a try and fell in love immediately lol My bff can tell you how absolutely obsessed I've been since I started watching... But it really is a great show, and the fandom has been fantastic. There's not a lot of fic, but it's been a fun community on tumblr.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Just... everything about and relating to it. I hated the movie, and my hate gets more passionate as time goes by, esp with how much arguing I've done with ppl who loved it. It's honestly kind of put me off Star Wars in general, including the future movies. I've secluded myself in the Kylux fandom bc everything else makes me want to rage and/or cry lol
Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Hux probably? I just love him a lot and he's shown up a lot in my fandom life the past year, from what I read to what I watch to what I reblog on tumblr to what merch I buy. He's one of two Funkos I own and I was this close to buying a body pillow of him at one point lol
Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
I'd have to say Pansy. She's been the focus of a lot of my HP fic, particularly my femslash. I'm not sure exactly what got me interested in her after so longin the fandom, but when I got interested, I went hard lol I just think she's a really fascinating character that gets the short end of the stick in both canon and fanon. I've had a lot of fun exploring that!
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Going to KiSCon in September!! It was my first small, fandom run con and it was an absolutely fantastic experience :D There were some great panels and events, and I got to meet up with some friends I made at Pinto Getaway Weekend in 2016, as well as make a bunch of new friends. It was really just great to hang out with so many other fangirls for a whole weekend in LA <3 I've even got to meet up with one of my new friends after coming home!
The most missed of your old fandoms?
I've actually been having a lot of fandom nostalgia lately, mostly fandoms I was in in high school or early college. But recently I have been missing Naruto a lot, esp the KakaIru corner. I kind of want to go reread fic or find some new stuff, but I'm afraid I'm not going to like the old fic as much anymore since fandom's changed so much since then :/
The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
I don't typically not get involved somehow in a fandom that interests me. But I have been eyeing The Exorcist recently since I've been seeing a lot it on tumblr. I'm hoping to watch it soon (though I'm watching so many other things already...) and then I'm sure I'll jump right in!
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Finally getting to watch The Shape of Water for sure. Bc I have become a ridiculous Guillero del Toro fangirl in the past year and I'm not even ashamed lol Also Pacific Rim 2, A Wrinkle in Time, and The New Mutants. And hopefully another Pinto Getaway Weekend in the fall!!
