La Grande Summary
New York: of all the places i remember being in my life, none has made such an impression as did the big apple. i don't know if it was because of all the movies and tv and everything else i have heard of it, but i spent the whole time thinking "oh my god, i can't believe i'm here. how cool is this?" i love the grid, and that public transportation is so accessible. i love that so much is fit into so little space because each building is layers and layers of people and things that make the city so unique. new york is a place that i would love to live in someday. that easy access to broadway and ... well, the whole city is fantastic. what an awesome place.
Boston/The Schools: this was kind of the low point of my trip. i wasn't unhappy or anything, but it wasn't nearly as interesting as the rest. i feel that i didn't gain as much from visiting the schools as i would have expected, although i am more certain now of my preferences and ranking order. i think i could maybe have done without it. and i was completely useless in boston during that time. i simply watched a lot of tv, took a few dance classes, ate and played sudoku. (okay. visiting madi, etc, was good, but that was only two days) i just wish i had had something better to do.
Prague: this was the climax of my adventure. i must say that it was incredible to be in europe without parental supervision, and even so i only had two drinks and went out partying only once. in six days we prolly went to about 15 different cafes, had innumerable espressos and ate far too many desserts. the food was a bit dissappointing. i guess prague isn't known for its cuisine, and though it was all yummy, there were a few too many pieces of grissle in the meat and not enough veggies. the best part was being able to walk everywhere, especially in the pedestrian zones, and just the feeling that this city is full of history, which as eddie izzard is quick to point out, there is very little in the us. prague also made me feel very jewish. miriam and i had two half days of completely jewish activities, and i started reading the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay, about two jewish boys (one of whom is from prague). other than that, my greatest accomplishment there was an addition to the rings i wear after searching through half the jewelry shops in prague. the main stones found in prague are garnet and amber. as i already have a garnet ring, i spent way too long looking for an amber ring which i finally found. somehow that made the trip a lot more fun. and the place really is lovely.
and now i am home, glad that i can look back and remember how cool it was, but really and truly...
there's no place like home
