tonight i made iced-spiced gingerbars, and i think i finally got them right. for all that i am usually a pretty good cook, i have made them twice in the past, and neither time did they come out right. once, somehow, there was too much baking soda (even tho i followed the recipie) and that time i didn't make the icing, and the second time (using the same amount of baking soda as before) the bars came out fine, but the icing came out horribly wrong. looking back i think i made it wrong, but there you go.
this time i followed the directions perfectly. when they came out of the oven they smelled like they had too much baking soda. but the icing came out right, and i put it on before they cooled (oops! but seems to not matter). and when i tasted them, they were still warm and tender and they tasted like heaven on a stick, except without the stick. divine!!!
faris, i love you forever and ever for introducing me to these things, if for nothing else, and i miss you terribly.
and ps, i did get your letter, but it turns out i am just as bad at snail mail correspondence as the electronic kind. but i have been keeping that letter in my work folder, so whenever i have the chance i will be ready to regale you with stories of my sordid world and the infamous way i steal thru it.
