Does anyone like leather seats? To me something like the sporty cloth seats that James has are perfect. I really don't see the advantage that leather has over cloth, and in several cases I'd just outright think cloth is better. But at some point as you move up to the better trim packages on a car, leather gets in there somehow. I guess it's ( Read more... )

the altima coupes are pretty. And I see your point completely on the whole "leather seat" thing. Maybe if we didn't live in the humid south, leather seats might be nice, but since we do they are just either cold in winter or sticky in summer.

Exactly, leather seems awful for summer climates. I think most of the them are heated which might not be bad for winter weather. But still, as a seating surface it just doesn't seem worth the cost.

Actually, mom's heating feature on her regular altima is pretty nice. Granted, it's also an excellent practical joke.

Those 2 cars look a lot more alike than I would have guessed.

I agree about the leather - hot in summer and cold in winter. And it cracks up when it gets old. Maybe a plus is easier to clean? I don't know that for sure.

Nissan makes the Infiniti. (Sorry if you already knew that - I just recently found out.)

Why don't you call your insurance agent and ask about relative costs.

Since the price and features all seem about the same, my advice is to just drive all of them and decide on which is most comfortable/easy to drive.

I really don't think I've ever spilled something on my seats. And I just never remember being comfortable sitting on leather. I don't know why, but I don't even really like it for furniture. I really do think it's a made up market. It's more expensive so people desire it because of that, even if it's really not that good.

I did know that Nissan -> Infiniti. Much like Honda -> Acura and Toyota -> Lexus. I really don't see the benefit of getting a luxury brand though, I don't even appreciate all the fancy features in the base brand.

I will call my insurance agent soon. I'd like to have a good idea what I'm looking at before I call though.

When the new Honda comes out in mid-September I think I will just take a Saturday to drive everything that I'm considering and try to get a good feel for them. You notice a lot of things that you don't notice otherwise by driving them.

I was talking to Carrie about your dilemma. She has leather seats in her car. She said she loves them and would never want to go back. Specific pluses she mentioned were the classic look. She said that cloth seats look dated sometimes. And the ease of cleaning. She did some babysitting over the summer, and the kids ate in there even though she told them not to. She said even red juice she just wiped off. And she thinks it's comfortable.

So there's another recommendation.

Yes, obviously! What should I have said? Punks? I don't know, what I was getting at is that 90% of 16 year olds get a brand new Mustang and then proceed to drive it like a bumper car.

Kate Walsh is so gorgeous. I'm excited for new TV.

And yeah, you know how I feel about mustangs. I still think the Altima is the sportier-looking of the two, and if the Altima was made by Honda it's what I'd pick. But the Honda name carries so much weight...

Redheads are not attractive.

Altima is almost too curvy. It really does look like an Infiniti in some ways, which is a negative to me. If the Honda name ends up costing $2500 more and carrying with it lots of stuff I don't want, I might be able to get over the name and get the Altima. I'd like to test drive it first of course, to see how the CVT feels :)

the seats in my car are mostly cloth, but the bucket seats in the front have leather on the sides.
a little awkward in the summer with shorts and slightly sweaty legs...

i don't understand why they would do it that way...

That is strange, but I've seen a few like that, with "leather trim". And like you say, leather in a warm climate just seems to mean sticking to the seats.

Happy Birthday ;)

I would avoid Nissan, though my brother-in-law have three Nissans (Z, truck and 07 XTerra). Honda is definitely the better company. I also prefer the design and style of the Accord over the Altima ( ... )

I would definitely agree that Honda is a better company than Nissan. Just the name carries a ton of weight. But I don't know if Nissan is really a good company and I just don't know much about them? Mikey and Sara both have Altimas and they seemed nice to drive or ride in. Style-wise most people seem to like the Nissan over the Honda, but I agree with you. The Altima looks too much like an Infiniti almost, wheras the Honda has harder lines which I like ( ... )
