Surprisingly, since my trick-or-treat days as a kid have past, I really haven't done much for Halloween. My friends around here look to me as some sort of Halloween guru, which I don't mind, but I feel I haven't been living up to the part. I was thinking about getting foxed up and going on campus to my classes and work, but I had a midterm so I wussed out and went with my usual "student/homocidal maniac" motif, which didn't get too much reaction from passersby.
During work, a friend told me he was heading to West Hollywood (WeHo for those in the know ;) ) so having finished my last test until finals, I figured I'd take him up on the offer. Of course, I got hit up for costumes for other people, giving my bear in the big blue house suit to a friend, while I decided to go for a more tasteful ensemble of a velour fox suit with the head/tail combo. I didn't really know what to expect, but the news had been buzzing about WeHo all day, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to unleash the fox on the public at large. Harry Potter picked us up around 9p, after which we endured heavy traffic and parked a few blocks down from Hollywood Ave.. Immediately upon arriving, we were greeted by a sailor who doled out cups of box wine and a cute rabbit suiter, who I oggled and quickly groped while sipping my booze.
After finishing my cup, I donned the fox head and we headed into the fray...thinking I would be the center of attention, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the streets were jam packed, and *everyone* had dressed for the occasion. Scantily clad guys and gals lined the avenue, with countless sailors, conquistadors, bikers, cowboys, indians, and any other costume that gave people an excuse to show off their package ;) I really got into the mood, swinging my tail at anyone who glanced my way, getting hugs and shouts of "foxy!" from every other halloweener, and just having a great time overall. I got asked almost half a dozen times "are you a furry?" by random people, much to my surprise. Even better, when I told them I was, I got hugely positive reactions, as even one guy told me "Ooooh...I know *all* about furry...rwowr!"
We eventually met up with some friends from the house, including an acquaitance I knew dressed in full playboy bunny attire with full makeup and everything (and he was the straightest of the bunch I thought) By the end of the night, we were chatting it up about my suit and his experience with attending fetish balls (which floored me) He kept telling me that with my suit, I really needed to attend a furry con. Little did he know... ;)
We headed back to Westwood around 2am after the crowds died down, and after a bit of chatting I headed to bed around 4:30. I woke up at 7:30 this morning, and am currently working on an 8 hour day, so we'll see how long my cup of Dizzy-strength coffee lasts until I crash ;) Needless to say, after last night, I don't think I'll ever sit at home for Halloween again.
Anyways, just thought I'd share my little Halloween exploits, since it seems like everyone else had a great time as well :) We rock!
