So,
Sen. Barack Obama has just
cinched the Democratic nomination, beating out one-time favorite
Sen. Hillary Clinton. Not that this has been unexpected for the last several months, but it is wonderful thing to finally have for sure. Well, as sure as can be until the actual convention;
Clinton doesn't seem to be able to see that the writing's on the wall, which seems to just be her stubborn streak showing itself.... again. Seriously, if will were enough, this woman would be able to go toe-to-toe with a sumo for ten rounds. Still, this doesn't mean she can't get into office one way or another, as there seem to be mutterings of
Obama asking her to be his running mate, which isn't all that bad of an idea. She does seem to reach demographics he's weak with (blue-collar whites, especially), though I doubt she'd be able to "carry" any states. And she's not a shoe-in for the No. 2 spot, there's
plenty of viable options for Obama. So now, as the Globe and Mail stated, "The speculation is over. Let the speculation begin." This leg of the race for the White House may be over, but that doesn't mean it's going to get boring.
On an aside note, I almost hope some southern good-ole'-boy decides to take a potshot at Obama during some part of this race. Not kill him, of course, I like the guy after all. I just want some conclusion to that media hand-wringing from a few months back as to whether Obama is a black man with a white mother, or a white man with a black father. Not that it really matters, but there seems to have been this very quiet decision that he is the former. The true test is in the gunfire, of course; as
Chris Rock said: "White people get assassinated. Black people get shot".
