let's do an experiment.
let's do an experiment in which i restart a livejournal account that was given up for dead almost four years ago. let's see how long it takes someone to notice. let's see if there's anyone left around here to notice.
let's, let's, let's.
went to a show tonight. at the black cat, thank god. there were three bands: the first (the sugar plums) were absolute kids, playing their first show. they sounded pretty ok, and got adorably flustered at the hecklers who smelled fresh meat. they were distorted and twee in a way that almost made you forget they were just a two-piece.
the second group (the depreciation guild) was basically the most boring combination of my bloody valentine, [insert other preferred shoegaze group], and a mark rothko fever dream that you could possibly imagine. i spent most of their set daydreaming about launching my new secret career as an indie rock wedding DJ.
i also now want to be in a band called the mark rothko fever dreams. damn the luck.
finally, the pains of being pure at heart took the stage after what felt like 600 hours to play a relatively abbreviated set. all in all, the setlist was a decent mix of new and old (both of which are relative terms here), though the absence of "a teenager in love" cut me pretty deep. the levels seemed pretty off throughout, though, with most of the vocals faltering completely in the oncoming crush of guitars. crowd seemed pretty jazzed, at least.
for a monday, i had few complaints. though, i did manage to waste two extra polaroids at the show due to a lack of a) adequate lighting and b) confidence in my skills as a "photographer". gotta start watching that. half the fun of this project involves the resource management aspect, one that i've been ignoring with willful abandon lately. at $1.60 per picture and rising, that kind of rakish frivolity has to be reined in double quick.
i feel pretty good about this entry. pretty, pretty good. might just do another one tomorrow.

...see you in 2013?
