Drawing

I realized a short bit ago that I have never been shown how to draw. I suppose in some ways that is not a true statement, as I am sure my kindergarten teacher most likely did... but there was nothing really memorable ( Read more... )

I'd just buy a book on drawing, to nail the basics; it's cheaper and much less time-consuming. You can get some helpful pointers, but that's about it. Things like this...

...which appear to be helpful, but are actually quite useless, unless you're equally adept at drawing stick figures and fleshing them out into "real" people. You do it, you scrutinize it, you try to make it better...or not. I took tons of classes, read lots of books, and I still can't draw exactly what I see in my head; nobody can. And what I can do, I didn't learn from anybody but me.

MOST TEACHERS are simply going to tell you what's in the stupid book. Just buy the book and save yourself some $$$$$$$.

Ah, but I have a veritable library of books... all of which have helped me understand a great many things about everything from anatomy to color theory to .

I think I need... hm. Feedback? Drawing sessions? Assignments?

Or perhaps I simply need to stop freaking myself out about things... who the hell knows?

As an aside, I had a dream that you came and visited. Strangely enough, it was on the night that a friend passed away. I just realized that.

If you are by chance out in the area (ever) it would be grand if you dropped in. I would love to see you.

Were that not to be perhaps I could stop over and see your boxing arena. If the idea interests you, that is...

Take care. (Because it's dangerous, man... they are watching you... they are watching us all)

*laughs*

Sorry. I had to mock on myself.

It is required.

Well, feedback is a legitimate issue. The problem is, you're deep in Redneck Wonderland, where cat portraits are considered avant-garde. (You can imagine how my pics looked, hanging up with a bunch of watercolor lighthouse paintings.)

I guess my point is that you shouldn't fall into that "If only I took a class/had the ultra-fanciest watchamacallits, I could be an artiste/rock star/etc." trap. I drew thousands of pictures in notebooks with Bic pens before I even set foot in elementary school.

Anyway, I want to go out there sometime, but there are millions of things I want to do that never get done, 'cause life has basically sucked since November 1994.

I think that if/when you go to college, they'd all be blown away with how talented you are. Really.

I don't know about that (because I know people with awe-inspiring talent), but I would like to believe that I am capable. Of figuring things out.

Sometimes I think it just comes down to the fact that I have a problem with shapes. Doesn't that sound incredibly daft?

That, and I may well have killed off a few too many brain cells. That's what happens every time a child throws their clothes on the floor... POP ... there goes another one.
