Caffeine-free

Jun 26, 2010 16:15

Over the last year, I've gone from having a small amount of caffeine maybe once a month to having significant portions daily. Except today.

The lazy Saturday sleep-in of sorts happened and I didn't really get up until after 8:30. That's about 3 hours of extra sleep-time (low quality and interrupted, but still). The diet coke was in the trunk of the car, not the fridge, and putting shoes on to go out there seemed like unnecessary effort.

At 2:00, I realized my caffeine-free state. I could have remedied the situation then, but Jamie was asleep. A nap seemed like the better choice. Two blissfully unaware hours later, the kids woke me up. I could have easily slept for another hour or three.

It's now after 4:00 pm. I'm not willing to risk tonight's sleep quality to have a diet coke now. So I guess it's going to be a caffeine-free day. I don't have a headache or any other withdrawl symptoms so far (knock wood). But I am TIRED. Hopefully the kids will cooperate with an early-ish bedtime. If not, there will be caffeine tomorrow morning!

ETA: Well, the day wasn't entirely caffeine-free, but I didn't drink any. As we learned on Mythbusters last night, caffeine is one of the active ingredients in a diet coke & mentos fountain. It looked like so much fun that we had to try it! Five 20 oz bottle were fountained, with the sixth put in the fridge for me for tomorrow morning.
