Maybe he crawled away and they thought they were helping him. Or maybe they thought it was okay, weren't you going to give them away?

Then they would have to be very cruel to steal him like that. I know some people at Hogwarts can be mean, but do you really think anyone's mean enough to do that? Won't he die?
