So people are going kind of insane about a new feature Fanfiction.net put on the site (I feel like I've been saying this a lot), but it is kind of going in both directions. They made it so you can sort stories by reviews, favourites, and followers (story alerts) and people are kind of in an uproar. Some people want this to find stories easier, others hate it thinking that things are going to be a popularity contest.
To tell you the truth, it took me a moment to even realize this thing existed and where it was located. I did notice, however, they made it visible to people browsing through stories to see the number of favourites and followers you have for said story.
Now, I can totally see where some people wouldn't like this. The main issue is that people think that popular stories will become more popular and things like oneshots will be ignored. I think this is going to happen anyway when it comes to the former. Popular stories are going to stay popular, in fact, they'll probably stay popular no matter what. If they have more reviews, they probably have more favourites, meaning that they will get more attention from people browsing other people's profiles.
I'm kind of indifferent on the whole thing for that purpose. I can pretty much guarantee you that it will not hinder or help my reviewing/reading habits. I can't see myself going, "Oh man, this story has X favourites! Got to read this now!" No, I read stuff based on if I'm interested in it. I'm not really bothered by numbers. I do wonder, sometimes, how some stories have so many reviews (to be honest) and I guess seeing favourites and alerts will probably hurt my head in a similar way.
But really, I used the feature once and I did it to see where my stories were on the list. XD I just wanted to gauge where I am in the full spectrum of Beyblade fanfiction. Guaranteed that's the only reason I'll ever use it -- to make personal goals for myself. Maybe that's just how I roll though? I don't do much comparing to other people.

I've been sleeping like crap lately. I think I've fallen asleep around 4 in the morning the last few days. This is what getting sick does, I guess. It's super annoying because I would prefer to have a normal sleep cycle. Or at least one that is more reasonable than it is now.
I should really use the time to write.
