A Lament to Book Warehouse
Oh ye of storied shelves, bright clean walls and utilitarian ceilings,
You fill yourself with wisdom, knowledge, beauty and caring people.
The tomes you sold, the manuscripts of new and old,
they fill us with passion, inspiration,
sometimes laughter, sometimes sadness and yet sometimes horror.
But we seekers of such treasures arrive to make our trades
because you beckon and we cometh.
Alas it was not meant to be or to last
As iPads, iPhones and their ilk arrive to change our minds,
The community is now on a digital web, no longer in a concrete place.
Book Warehouse, we will miss you as do all bookstores that cometh and go...
But I particularly am saddened by the loss to the community of such a treasured place where
I can escape the humdrum of life, my sorrows so I can live in someone's words of fantasy or wisdom.
I and Vancouver, BC bid you a very fond and tearful farewell.
I know I will treasure the Book Warehouse bookmarks as soon as the store fades into memories...
