I've always, but especially lately after a recent benefit, been thinking a lot about all of the transman surgery benefits that happen in this city and how there's such a disparity between how transmen and transwomen are supported (or not supported) in the dyke/trans communities and I'm wondering if there isn't a way to seriously work on bridging that gap. Because that gap is really outrageous and it doesn't get talked about enough. There is a lot of money passing hands in a diy-donation party style and while I definitely support people getting their needs met and asking for help from their communities for gender-affirming surgeries, I would love to see that money go to a wider group of people that does include trans women and people who don't have so many resources.
What if we took our resources and pooled them and worked on spreading the love? What if there were benefits and organizing around helping a wider community vs. individuals? What if some of us held ourselves accountable to making that happen?
Thoughts? Feedback? Support? Commitment?
