I'm sorry, could you repeat that...

I just got off the phone with my car insurance company.

Following my accident, I have been experiencing a bit of pain. T has been pressuring me to go to the doctor, which is not something that I would usually do on a voluntary basis. I was raised with a "Pain is not something to pay any attention to, just keep going and maybe complain about it every once in a while if it gets too bad" attitude toward pain. My doctor told me that married men tend to live longer because their wives get tired of listening to them bitch about pain and make them go to the doctor. When I told her that my wife had made me come to her, she just laughed.

My doctor has this Kung-Fu Poke of Doom, by which she can probe an area of mild discomfort (aka my right shoulder), and by process of her Dim-Mok Poke of Death, cause it to flare into excruciating pain. She prescribed what appear to be very good happy fun drugs to ease the new agony, but, as the police officer kept my license inadvertently following the accident, I have been unable to get them filled.

All along, both insurance companies have been requesting the bills for my diagnosis and treatment. I have been unsure to whom I should send the bills, but, upon talking to my insurance company this morning, both companies are responsible for paying the amounts of the bills. One of them will pay the actual bill, and then supposedly the other one should pay the value of the bill to me. This is making me seriously scratch my head. I have never heard of such a thing before. If it is true, you had better believe I am going to physical therapy, and I might take a ride to the hospital in an ambulance just because it costs $500.00!

She described it as "Double Dipping" and says that it is the accepted norm here in Missouri, but can that even possibly be correct? Do I live in a state that is really that backward, corrupt, and unethical?
