Transmission issues
The transmission in T's car is shifting roughly around third gear. It is even worse when the car tries to down-shift from fourth to third to climb a hill. I checked the transmission fluid level, and it seemed a bit low, so I checked the manual that came with the car only to find that the required fluid is no longer made! Very irritating. My brother in law told me only to use Dexron III, but that is totally the wrong thing for this type of transmission, and, from the descriptions in some of the forums to which I belong, I am beginning to fear that at some point Dexron was put into the transmission instead of ATF+3. I have found a few references that claim to be compatible, but they are not carried by any of the gas stations that I have visited thus far... the search is made a trifle more complicated by the fact that it is Christmas day, and all the specialty stores where I might find this stuff are closed.
