[Action; Elementary School]

[There is a little girl in a floofy pink dress picking at her lunch and looking generally discontent. Approach?]

Oh, are you a fool fallen prey to it? I'm not surprised.

Kings need to have successors. Besides, it's fun so you shouldn't be a spoilsport.

If all you want is offspring, love hardly has anything to do with it.

That's what I'm asking, what's so fun about it?

Everything is fun. Sharing ice cream, going on date, those kind of things.

That's silly, you can do these things with your friends anyway without falling in love and becoming so engrossed with a single person.

It's a lot better when you're in love. That doesn't even bring up the things that only people in love can do.

Like what? And don't say "sex".

That was going to be one! But that feeling when you know someone cares like that is great, I think. You'd have to experience it to know.

Hmph. Sounds overrated.

Of course it will sound overrated to someone who will never try it.

I won't do it because it's stupid. It make you act like a fool, forget your real priorities and open yourself up to ridicule, shame and hurt. There are much healthier and less volatile relationships to be explored.

Anyone who gets hurt deserves it. You can love and not get hurt.

Happy endings like that are rare; plenty of people, good or bad, get hurt from love. If anything, it's the nice ones who get hurt more.

How do you get hurt from love? You can't explain that. [Suddenly Gil's view of love starts to become skewed.]

[love goes in, hurts come out! can't explain that!]

When people love, they open themselves up to others, but romantic love is just so volatile and nonsensical that it's far to easy for it to sour or disappear and then suddenly someone's getting hurt because they or someone else doesn't care any more and the whole thing falls out of balance!
