Supernatural 5.04 Mini Picspam & Thoughts

So...The End. I actually loved this one more than last weeks episode. And I was flailing over that one as well.

It may have something to do with Dean seeing the light but there was much to like.

It was such an aesthetically appealing and well shot episode I felt the urge to choose some caps, play around with them and add them
to my thoughts. Caps are all from Home of The Nutty.

Some points about this episode:
#1 - I really think Misha must be having a ball this season and good on him. He's a more than competent actor and seems to relish this role and all the idiosyncracies that come with playing a Castiel who more and more finds himself involved with the grass roots of the human race and their behaviours. Also really - he is much needed light comic relief. Several of his lines were just laugh out loud funny - from his audible stress about running out of minutes (and I'm waiting for the fic of that little trip to purchase a cell phone) to his "What? I like past you." And the way he played the scene when he realises he's not talking to present Dean - "Did Zach do this to you?" "Yeah" "Hmmm...interesting."

#2 - Two Deans. The mind boggles. Jensen did a great job and I'm sure he was completely exhausted by the end of filming that week - but the editing and camera work was seamless and worked really well. Here's where I have to add this image:

I remember at the most recent con Jensen speaking about how they got a guy in to play opposite him just so he'd
have someone to react off and how that poor guy didn't really last more than a day as he was referred to as
'Diet Jensen" because he was just that much smaller and skinnier than Jensen. Anyway Jensen ended up
using his stunt double but I just love how  even here you notice that to add to the effect of two Deans from different
years you have present Dean in a clearly bulked up jacket to show the impact of rationing on future Dean.
Yeah I am a total dork for details like this.

#3 Sam telling Dean pretty much straight away about being Lucifer's vessel. He's obviously working his way through
the whole Ten Step Program for How To Earn Your Brother's Trust - Step 1 Admit you have a problem (see Good God, Y'All)
Step 2 - Be Honest. Check. I was irrationally overjoyed by this phonecall. It helped me not yell at Dean too much
with the whole "We're stronger when we're apart...we should just pick a hemisphere etc etc".

#4 Future Dean was indeed a dick - so glad Dean realised this. There's been the usual uproar over Sam's very
little screentime throughout this episode but I have to say that I didn't think a second of Dean's story wasn't relevant
to Sam's. Yeah it would have been nice to have know how Sam was reacting to the phonecall but not necessary.
I love how fucked up Future Dean was. How it was as plain as day that the decision to separate did lead to future Dean. A
Dean who is screwed up in so many ways from as shallow as the treatment of the Impala, to the not speaking to Sam,
not being there when Sam said yes, to the ruthless execution style, to using friends as cannon fodder, to his use of torture.
Without all this the only reason we would have to explain Dean's change of mind would be for his concern about Sam saying yes.
Of course he's still worried that might happen but his decision to call Sam is now fuelled just as much by present Dean's
desire to avoid turning into that future Dean who has clearly got something broken in him.

#5 The Dean and Lucifer scene was very satisfying. I had to get a couple caps from that because it was just that good.

Jared was great - and suitably chilling with his fervour to convince Dean that his agenda was completely
justified. Loved the way he delivered the lines about "no matter what choices you  make, whatever details
you alter we always end up...here. I win...so I win." Brilliant. Jared's come such a long way with his acting
and I love watching him perfect his art.

And Dean calling it like he sees it. Not even giving Lucifer a single inch of consideration let alone any
sympathy. He's just another cockroach with a bigger ego. His lines here so reminded me of Dean of
Season 1 and 2, I got a little nostalgic. And no I'm not unrealistic, I don't expect either of the boys to return
to the way they were back then - they've changed and we still love them just as much for all their changes.
But I can't wait till they're back hunting things together again - which I hear is next week so Yay! on that front.

#6 The Epilogue

I love this shot so I had to find a cap of it and have a play with it. It's also the opening shot of what is so far in my top 5
scenes of season 5 so it's all inevitable really that I have a pic of it here.

Sam is soooo earnest in this scene. I think my heart broke a little at how genuinely open he's
being about his determination to never let Dean down. The way he said thankyou too - it could
have played desperately grateful but it didn't. Somehow the guys just pulled this off so well
that I didn't for a second feel that the power play between them wasn't even. Sam is still on the
path of redemption but he's not going to do it without Dean. Sam is going to keep Dean human
along the way. I just felt a huge weight lift off my chest at this scene it just cleared the air for me.

Plus there's always Jensen again....being ridiculously pretty.

Some questions I have - I want more background on the Colt - if this gun really can kill Lucifer then
I think there is some explaining to do. That's a huge IF with regards to the Colt.

Dean's rationale for saying Nah to being Michael's vessel is motivated more by his belief that
most of the human race will be wiped out in the battle between Michael and Lucifer. Is leaving
Lucifer in Nick's body going to lead to more deaths? I would think that Lucifer's power is limited
whilst he wears Nick as a meatsuit. Why isn't Michael trying out other vessels like Lucifer in a bid
to get Dean to say yes? Then I'm wondering if we're going to see Raphael again.

My solution to the whole thing would be to get Cas to work some amazing angel mojo on Dean that
means when he says yes to Michael, Dean is still in the main driver's seat. Dean has influence over
what Michael says and does. That would be cool. Because right now I'm sensing Michael is about as
much fun as Uriel and Raphael combined with a heavy dash of Zachariah just for the unctuous, annoying
factor. I'd LOVE to be wrong about that.

Bring on next week and the famous ganking ghosts! I still say Sigmund Freud should be one of them.
