The Fires that Devastate

Feb 09, 2009 22:31

I've been wanting to post on this all day but now is my first chance. I live in Perth and luckily we have been untouched by the catastropically devastating bushfires that have struck the eastern states of Victoria and New South Wales. I am still waiting to hear if friends have been affected by this horrible event. So many deaths. The disgusting thing is some of these fires have probably been deliberately lit or relit. This article tells more about it: News.com.au

This link here is to the Australian Red Cross who are calling for help with their Bushfire Appeal.

I am quite heavily involved with the sport of dog agility here in Australia and all the disciplines of the dog sporting world - ranging from Showing, Obedience, Tracking, Agility and Flyball have people who are wanting help out in anyway they can. DogsVictoria is helping to make that happen. They have a variety of ways which people can help out listed at the DogsVictoria website here.

One of the ways - which is quite a unique and beautiful concept really is by hosting a Virtual Dog Show - however for the first time ever in the history of dog showing there will be another group added to the seven groups we currently have called Group 8 - Dogs of Mixed Marriages, so every dog person in Australia who are members of their Canine Association and who own a dog or cares about dogs can enter this show for a ten dollar entry fee. The show catalogue will be presented with all the dog's names and their owners to each of the victims who receive assistance and the entrants themselves can also purchase a catalogue from Dogs Victoria. It's a fantastic idea and one that will really show how all responsible, caring dog (pedigree or mixed parentage) owners in Australia can pull together for a cause. All three of my dogs will be entered into this one and I will be ordering a catalogue.

The details of this dog show are all below the cut. And yes they will take overseas entries! So if you have a dog and you'd like to enter feel free to get an entry form off me or make up your own!
