Writer's Block: Summer Break

How did you spend summers when you were a kid?

I played Barbies with my sister. We rolled them down the hill in their cars and watched entropy take over. Uh, played dress up with Star and Kay. Rode my bike.

writer's block, summer

I read in the basement on the cool tile floor.
My friends and I staged bike races, but pretended we were riding horses instead of bikes.
We stayed up late playing all-neighborhood hide-and-seek in the dark.

So, by the time The New Adventures of He-Man came on TV, I used to have these immense imagination-fests When I was playing by myself both during the summer and at school. I had all the good guys on my team and we would fight all the bad guys. It pervaded my life so much that I imagined my bedroom could transform into the command center at the press of a button that was hidden under my bed. I would just lose hours in that little world and I would make sure that my family didn't know that I was a part of it, just like Adam from He-Man.

Other than that, I just explored the woods behind my house. I think I was born a transcendentalist, lol

I always went to spend the summer with my dad, stepmom, and sisters (San Antonio for two years, but Dayton, Ohio, the rest of my life). I read a lot, and watched all the tv I couldn't at my mom's because they had cable. Swam at the local pool every night, sometimes in the afternoon, too. Enjoyed being with my family who I saw (and still see) way too infrequently.

When we weren't moving to a new home or something my brother and I would put all our toys on our mutual skateboards and make these battle barges where Optimus Prime would call out the SDF-1 and battle it out for the fate of the world.

Being a "youngest only child," I tended to just veg and watch TV, occasionally venturing into the world for baseball. After a while, I constructed buildings, cars, streets, sidewalks, etc., out of paper, making my own miniature town with tons of paper buildings and people. I was incredibly detailed, too, making miniature toilets and with movable lids and handles, doorknobs on the doors, trunks and hoods on the cars, etc. My parents thought I was gifted. Or autistic. Either one.
