Theta Chi TOR: A complete history.

Theta Chi TOR, or Theta Chi Team of the Revolution as it is known by its full name, was forged by me in Spring of 2003. During this time, walleyball giants such as Alex Klepacz and Dan Wise walked this land. While they continued to dominate the leagues, Theta Chi TOR was formed. A team consisting of young freshman and sophomores who had never played walleyball. Little did they know, that they would evolve into the greatest walleyball team on the entire campus of about 20k students. Now, Theta Chi TOR is the premiere team on campus, is currently the #1 ranked team.

The meaning of the name "Theta Chi TOR" is actually three fold. First, the Theta Chi part is obvious, as it is composed of only brothers of the greatest fraternity on the planet! Second, the team was revolutionary in the sense that it was completely new, and quickly became a league leading team within a year. The third reason is an obvious reference to the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 which is perhaps my favorite event in all of history. Besides, no mundane name such as "the A team" or "the B team" would suit a team as great as this. A mighty team calls for an even mightier name.

Since its inception, the team has gotten progressively better. In its inaugural season in Spring 2003, Theta Chi TOR enjoyed only an expected 1-3 record. Bu the team would live to play another season, at least 4 more to be exact, with many more to come. The following semester would be much kinder to Theta Chi TOR, as the team would make the playoffs on a 3-1 record, but would be eliminated by the better, more experienced Theta Chi team. In Spring of 2004, the team had another successful season and again enjoying a comfortable 3-1 record, but again was eliminated by the far more experienced team with Alex Klepacz, Joe Rose, and two of Alex's friends. Theta Chi TOR achieved its first perfect regular season in Fall of 2004 when the team, well-seasoned by that point, had a dominant showing by crushing all who opposed them. In their first trip to the finals, Theta Chi TOR took the heavily-favored FIJI team to the limit. While FIJI escaped by the skin of their teeth with their dirty victory, it was clear that the relatively nameless Theta Chi team would be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Sadly, there was not a spring season in 2005. Theta Chi TOR is getting ready to once again show its supremacy. This season, we enjoyed another perfect season and the #1 ranked Theta Chi TOR is getting ready to contend once again. The playoffs begin today (11/10/05) and will conclude next Thursday, and our team is slated to appear in the finals. The time is now.

Many great brothers have had the privledge of calling themselves members of the glorious Team of the Revolution. But the current team consists of myself, John, Broseph and Kulik. Here is a brief summary of what each brings to the team in specific.
Matt Kulik: A new member to the team this fall. Kulik obvious advantage is his height. At about 6' 4", Kulik is perfect for agressive net play. With arms up, the other team needs to hit the ball high up just to clear his reach, which usually puts the ball in an easily returnable situation. Kulik also has a secret weapon, his serve. It tends to die as soon as it hits the wall, catching the other team off-guard.
Myself: Unlike Kulik, my talents aren't on the net, but in the back row. My strengths lie in returning hits and digging out spikes by the other team. Recently I've tried to perfect my set for an eventual spike by another teammate.
John Horinger: In terms of TOR, John is to me what Trotsky was to Lenin. John can play both front and back equally well. He excels at two things, his under-handed serve that has wicked spin and when playing the net, not spiking the ball, but precisely placing it where the other team can't hit it.
Joe Rose: Also new, Joe is a very welcome addition to the team. Joe has the best serve on the team. Known for just going on scoring sprees just on his serve alone. Joe can either launch a rocket of a serve or dink it in a nearly impossible spot at will. Broseph can also spike a ball like its nobody's business. He and John compliment each other well.

It is clear that many more accomplishments await. Theta Chi TOR will continue to dominate the leagues here at this fine university, even after I am gone most assuredly.
