Um. Theory?

- The WBC has stated publicly on more than one occasion that they aren't interested in saving souls or bringing people to Jesus.
- They have also stated that their job, that God has given them from on high, is to tell everyone that God hates them and they're going to burn in hell, period. No salvation, no forgiveness, that's it.

So basically the only reason they picket is to literally wave inflammatory slogans and get attention. And yell at people that they're going to Hell.

Actually, it's far more mercenary than that. Several of the Phelps clan are lawyers, and their main income comes from suing people that assault or otherwise harass them during these protests. They quite literally make their living from provoking people.
