It was weeks ago when I mentioned about my longest standing friend coming to stay, well it was a good weekend, great to catch up with each others news and we tried out a local Indian restaurant one evening, it was pretty good. The highlight had to be when we were pootling around the Friends Reunited website, she wanted to look up the bio of someone she was at school with and we discovered he recently married someone we used to know. She used to be a right little bitch, I hope for his sake she's mellowed since then.
I've been really slack about recording what I've been reading lately, which is stupid as I was hoping that this journal would be good for me to look back on. Christmas was not a good time for reading, what with all the guests and general upheaval, but since then I have finished The Name of the Rose. It must be nearly 20 years since I last read it so my memory of the details was not good, which I expected. What I didn't expect was how different my overall impression was this time round. Before I had been struck by the amount of historical information on the church, monasteries and various Popes, but not so this time. Maybe as I was no longer new to it I didn't get so bogged down in these details, it felt like a much more conventional detective story this time.
Since then I've read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. I fully expected to be irritated by the differences between film and book, but soon got over this as the film really did differ from the book so much and so comparisons were pointless.
Maybe my WWII history needs are being met by The Pacific rewatch, but I'm now onto another medieval history book, a history of the Knights Templar.
On a less high brow note, I thought I'd try out Blue Bloods on the new Sky Atlantic channel, and have just watched Donnie channelling his inner Speirs by shoving some crims head down the toilet. I'm really happy the Season 1 of Justified is being repeated and I'm getting the chance to see the episodes I missed. Hopefully it means Season 2 will be shown here soon.
