new year's survey :) a little late, but easing into the year comfortably is a nice way to do it, haha

1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
traveled to south america, cooked an entire meal on campus (which you know, i didn't really think was possible given the quality of the kitchens :P), lived on my own for an entire summer, joined a sorority, rethought what i want to do with my life

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
i made a list of 10 small resolutions, and i maybe kept about 3 of them...so probably no resolutions for this year haha, but of course i will still make goals for myself :)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
unfortunately not, i love babies!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
thankfully no, unless gerald ford and i were closer than i thought

5. What places did you visit?
guyana, sanibel island and fort myers, west paterson new jersey :D and camp asbury!

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
hmm...more direction, organization skills, better grades, focus and concentration, and always more friends :)

7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
the dates that i was home for sure since those were amazing, my birthday because it was very special and filled with pink and flowers and sugar, orientation leader training, RA training, and definitely nights before major exams...they teach you a lot about your worst habits and why never to pull all nighters

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
becoming an RA, i have never learned so much about taking care of people in such a short period of time

9. What was your biggest failure?
not working as smartly as i should have, letting myself down and having to re-evaluate what i want professionally and academically for my future

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
no thank god, this was actually a very good year for illness as i went without for most of it

11. What was the best thing you bought?
anything and everything i brought from starbucks...i don't know what it is about coffee that keeps me calm and makes me motivated to do stuff all at the same time :)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
my RA staff and supervisor, my friends in pittsford and my best friend at case

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
mean people :(

14. Where did most of your money go?
coffee, clothes, awesome times with my wonderful friends :)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
orientation, RA training, sorority initiation, winter break

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
cocoon by the decemberists, hero by chad kroeger, stop this train by john mayer, instant pleasure by rufus wainright, volcano by damien rice, how to save a life by the fray

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? more aware and realistic, haha
ii. thinner or fatter? life's a rollercoaster, ain't it? ;)
iii. richer or poorer? a little richer actually

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
hard, focused, concentrated studying...it was a battle, trying to do everything i took on, and i definitely learned my limits and know what to do better this year

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
worrying about everything

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
i spent it in fort myers in a hotel lobby right off the beach in the middle of tornado weather...i have really awesome pictures of the rain on the sand and in the palm trees :)

21. How will you be spending New Year's?
i spent it at nick's with my wonderful friends playing balderdash and eating wayyy too much excellent food and of course staying up past my bedtime :)

22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
not in the way that would've been lovely if it happened, but probably best that it didn't

23. How many one-night stands?
a lady never kisses and tells :X haha

24. What was your favorite TV program?
grey's and sex and the city were up there, but i have to hand the title of favorite to the office :)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
i try my hardest not to hate, i'll leave it at that!

26. What was the best book you read?
i really liked good to great in social sectors by jim collins...i learned a lot about leadership and actually kind of want to read more books on leadership theory. wow, that couldn't have sounded much nerdier :P

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
the fray, the decemberists, rufus wainright

28. What did you want and get?
wonderful people in my life, tall black boots, a digital camera

29. What did you want and not get?
more time to do things and see people, and more sleep

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
before sunrise...it didn't come out this year, but i watched it when i was at pretty much rock bottom after my o-chem final and it really made me feel a lot better, it's a beautiful film

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
i was 19 and i spent the day in class and getting soooo much sugar from my wonderful friends, residents, and sisters...at midnight a whole bunch of my friends came to surprise me with cupcakes and flowers, my residents got me a cookie bouquet and baked me 3 different cakes, i went out for dinner with my sisters which ended in a fabulous tommy's milkshake, had ice cream with my supervisor, and got brownies from another friend...all in all, quite a lovely birthday :)

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
ahhhh better grades, but what can you do? work harder with a fresh start in a new year :)

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
my personal feeling is that my wardrobe is fabulous, but i will leave the judging of that to you

34. What kept you sane?
coffee, cooking, shopping, shoes, spending copious amounts of time doing absolutely nothing with my friends and sisters, and of course, food!

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
the answer to this is, was, and always will be john mayer <333

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
stuff that was going on in the state of ohio, which is ironic since i can't vote here, but most of my friends can so i learned a lot through them about what's going on and what's being done to solve problems

37. Who did you miss?
my friends from home! sooo very much

38. Who was the best new person you met?
all of my sisters and my true blue and best friend, cara...i love all of those girls to death

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
you can't take care of others unless you take care of yourself first
