we've reached the end of a long journey

Well, well, well. As I speak I am getting closer and closer to the end of my great ipod project. I think we are about 6 songs away right now. It's been a pretty interesting and crazy journey. Music has always been a huge part of my life and in many ways this project has been like a little trip down memory lane. Each one of the 5,221 songs has a different tale to tell on it's own. Then as a listener I have associated those songs with certain memories or experiences, giving them a completely different meaning. This different meaning is only applicable to me, which is why music is so special, in my humble opinion. Music is more personal, at least to me, because of the way that I intertwine my own feelings and experiences with it. This happens to some degree with a good book, or a good movie, but I find that I attach personal meanings to songs far more often. I also find that the emotional experience I have with songs is much deeper than with other forms of art. I have absolutely loved doing this, yet at the same time I have felt as if the project was holding me prisoner at times. I'd wake up one morning and just want to put on something to rock the fuck out to (like Bad Religion). Then the damn ipod would offer up some REM to me as if it was doing me a favor. This would piss me off and make me just want to hit the menu button and end it all, but I wanted to continue. It's pretty cool to be able to say that I have listened to every song that I owned over the last couple of months. (well, virtually every song. there are some cds that didn't make it on the computer. but not many, not many at all) So, here it is. A list of the last bunch of songs that I've listened to, including the last song out of the 5,221! I have to say, the ol ipod saved some good shit until the end.

tyler (live) - The Toadies

splendid isolation - dead to me

wayfarer - hot water music

life on mars - david bowie

left for dead - the voodoo glowskulls

last nite - the strokes

rude and demanding - the shuttlecocks

so alone - the offspring

new punk fashions for the spring formal - dillinger four

the toilet song - bouncing souls

good grief - foo fighters

two thousand voices - strike anywhere

cherub rock - smashing pumpkins

pimps and hookers - nofx

fez- thumper

hitching a ride - green day

movie theme - beck

miller's angels - counting crows

hangin' tree - queens of the stone age

tessie - dropkick murphys

the sun never shines on closed doors - flogging molly

The Last 5!!!

hurt - johnny cash

trashy talk - potshot

wake up - gob

problems - against me!

And, song # 5,221:

I Don't Want You - The Ramones!

Yeah. That's it. And in the anticlimactic way that is common with the ol ipod once the shuffle ended it just went silent. Hahaha. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't silence. So I put on Noble Stabbings by Dillinger Four since I've had it in my head for a while. . . and it was nice to hear it. . . "Broken glass and razor wire. . . "
