CNBC, by way of WNBC, seems to have leaked the names in the Mitchell report. Who can we expect? Well, (yeah, forget the leak, WE GOTS THE WOO-WOO)
Here's the real list (may be incomplete, but they're all verified):
Lenny Dykstra, David Segui, Larry Bigbie, Brian Roberts, Jack Cust, Tim Laker, Josias Manzanillo, Todd Hundley, Mark Carreon, Hal Morris, Matt Franco, Rondell White, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, Jason Grimsley, Gregg Zaun, David Justice, F.P. Santangelo, Glenallen Hill, Mo Vaughn, Denny Neagle, Ron Villone, Ryan Franklin, Chris Donnels, Todd Williams, Todd Pratt, Kevin Young, Cody McKay, Kent Mercker, Adam Piatt, Miguel Tejada, Jason Christiansen, Mike Stanton, Stephen Randolph, Jerry Hairson Jr., Paul Lo Duca, Adam Riggs, Bart Miadich, Fernando Vina, Kevin Brown, Eric Gagné, Mike Bell, Matt Herges, Gary Bennett, Jim Parque, Brendan Donnelly, Chad Allen, Jeff Williams, Howie Clark, Nook Logan, Rick Ankiel, David Bell, Paul Byrd, Jose Canseco, Jay Gibbons, Troy Glaus, Jose Guillen, Darren Holmes, Gary Matthews Jr., John Rocker, Scott Schoeneweis, Ismael Valdez, Matt Williams, Steve Woodard, Marvin Bernard, Barry Bonds, Bobby Estalella, Jason Giambi, Jeremy Giambi, Benito Santiago, Gary Sheffield, Manny Alexander, Mark McGwire (in passing, in re: andro), Wally Joyner, Paxton Crawford, Ken Caminiti, Juan Gonzalez, aaaaand Randy Velarde.
It should be noted that this list doesn't include players who were already pinched under the old policy. So it's more of a supplement than anything definitive... sort of like flax seed oil or vitamin B12, if you will. ;)
The following Red Sox players and alums, reported in the leak, WERE NOT IN THE REAL REPORT:
Dante Bichette, Wil Cordero, Johnny Damon, Carl Everett, Rich Garces, Nomar Garciaparra, Guillermo Mota, Trot Nixon, Jose Offerman, Julian Tavarez, and Jason Varitek.
Other notable false positives:
Brady Anderson, Jeff Bagwell, Aaron Boone, Bret Boone, Rafael Betancourt, Milton Bradley, Albert Belle, Mike Cameron, Ramon Castro, Ozzie Canseco, Wilson Delgado, Kyle Farnsworth, Clay Hensley, Felix Heredia, Darryl Kile, Matt Lawton, Raul Mondesi, Robert Machado, Damian Moss, Abraham Nunez, Mark Prior, Neifi Perez, Rafael Palmiero, Albert Pujols, Juan Rincon, Ivan Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa (only said he sent Sosa a letter), Alex Sanchez, Fernando Tatis, and Kerry Wood.
As for anything incriminating, the report includes this interesting anecdote about how the Red Sox suspected Gagné was on the gas as soon as after the 2006 season. Mark Delpiano, a scout, in an email to TheoElDio:
Some digging on Gagne and steroids IS the issue. Has had a checkered medical past throughout career including minor leagues. Lacks the poise and commitment to stay healthy, maintain body and reinvent self. What made him a tenacious closer was the max effort plus stuff... Mentality without the plus weapons and without steroid help probably creates a large risk in bounce back durability and ability to throw average while allowing the changeup to play as it once did... Personally, durability (or lack of) will follow Gagne...
