Each Buddha realizes that her enlightenment is as much yours and mine as it is hers. Each enlightenment is in fact, a “group” accomplishment. Imagine a vast plane, or maybe an N-dimensional space. Each point is one of us at some moment in our lives. In this space, there is some kind of connectivity, like a photon traveling from one point to another. Buddhas happen where these “photons” converge, but there is no directionality. An awakened one is then a luminous location on this map of us. That illumination both shines on us and comes from us.
I do wonder if I am crazy. These thoughts, which I am completely unable to describe in any adequate terms, come unbidden. If feels like they are coming from really being open to Oneness, and filtered by my mathematically oriented brain. Where someone else might get a feeling “oh I feel so connected to the Buddha,” I get the picture of a space where these connections are occurring.
If we are One and that oneness is “awake” then all awakeness is the same awakeness and therefore connected. Somehow we are fascinated by awakeness, something in us wants that awakeness to be expressed. This something seems different than the awakeness itself but I am unclear as to how that is or even how that can be. And certainly, I do not understand why that would be.
