Six Feet of Stubs & Sickness

Still sick.  At least my coughing and sneezing appears to be alienating my co-workers, so something good is coming out of this.  Having a wintery illness in the dead heat of summer really blows, I must say.

Today on the A train I saw a small private school boy of about 9 or 10, very Harry Potter-y in appearance.  One of his arms was reduced to a stub, and he seemed very conscious of this handicap (with reason: all the ghetto straphangers were quite obviously staring at him).  A few stops later, an older Hispanic gentleman boarded the train; he too had a stub for one arm, whereas his looked pointier and bonier than the kid's fleshy lump.  I saw Man and Boy make eye contact for what seemed like at least a minute... what could they have been thinking?  Was it some kind of brotherhood/camaraderie, some sort of self-projecting resentment, or were the two even noticing each others' "deficiencies"?  Or were their thoughts worlds apart from each others', given that missing arms could be a very slight common denominator between two people?

Who knows.  Sometimes I think I spend way too much time wondering what other people are thinking.

I loved the Six Feet Under premiere last night; it totally justified for that crappy 4th season, even managing to immediately fill in a few noticable gaps from the first time around.  Kudoes to these actors and writers, they are going to go out with a bang.

And then I'll have to find another damn TV show.  One Tree Hill really doesn't fit the bill.

PS) yesterday on the train I saw a guy holding a smallish snake in his fist.  With the exception of a few smaller kids, no one on the car seemed to notice or give a damn.

onetreehill, sixfeetunder, sick, atrain
