Apropos of nothing, has anyone ever browsed the, um,
top 437 interests as identified by LJ'ers?
Some interesting observations:
Music is #1, which I guess is understandable, but it beats out Movies (#2) by a wopping 419,245 links.
There is a mere 18,165 advantage of users that include an interest of reading (#3) over writing (#4). And oddly, "Poetry" is #14.
"Livejournal" is #331.
"Water" is #103.
"Internet" comes in at the yeah, right slot of #63. No wait, that actually belongs to "The Matrix" (#439).
"Singing" is #12, "Laughing" is #24, and merely "Talking" doesn't come in until #41.
I assume "Thursday" is a band and not merely a weekday, since it is the only day of the week to show up on the list (#89)
The general notion of "Food" is #21, and Ween had it right when they labeled "Chocolate" (#28) and "Cheese" (#33) as the most popular examples of such.
Most popular sport: Swimming (#16), which is immediately preceded by "Sleeping" (#15)
Most popular proper noun: Harry Potter (#22, 183,119 links)
Most popular species of creature: "Cats" (#23), followed by "Dogs" (#55), "Vampires" (#98) and "People" (#180)
Most popular band: Taking Back Sunday (!!!!???What the hell is wrong with you people!!!!???) (#35, 13,6454 links)
Most popular actor: "Johnny Depp" at #66. Second place "Orlando Bloom" doesn't come in until #213. And I don't see a single actress, unless you count "Madonna" (# 432).
Most popular TV show: Family Guy (#84), kicking The Simpsons' ass (#122). People, respect!
Most popular weather: Rain (#26) [Very goth. Oh wait, "Goth" is only #270].
Most popular thing I never heard of: "Coheed and Cambria" [???] (#143)
"Love" in general is #11, and some stupid little heart sign shows up as #292. "Sex" is surprisingly low at #19. "Boys" are the most popular sex object (#20), followed by "Guys" (#31), "Girls" (#38), "Women" (#50), and "Men" (#111). There is no mention of gays, lesbians or homosexuals that I can locate, but "Bisexuality" concludes the list at #437.
"Friends" stands proudly at #4, which should dispell rumours about the social lives of average LJ'ers. However, the actual privilege of "hanging out with friends" does not show up until #344. ("Hanging out" alone is #200).
And finally, it should be noted that despite popular opinion to the contrary, in LJ Land "Jimi Hendrix" (#399) can't hold a candle to "Jesus" (#272).
