misinformation is the new road to political activism

Santa Cruz hosted a benefit show last night for the "West Memphis Three" -- three kids who were arrested on charges of killing three 8-year old boys in Memphis Tennessee. Jello Biafra was a special guest to the bar (The Blue Lagoon) obviously, because three of the five bands are on his label. So of course, in a world where three kids are in prison in Memphis, live punk music is at the Blue and Jello Biafra is inconspicuously floating around somewhere, there is inevitably misinformation, propaghanda and nothinig along the lines of literature.

Misinformation is the driving political force behind these punk shows. Stop and talk to one the othe band members -- the bands who are there, supporting the cause, shouting about the injustices and the fact that it could happen to ANY OF US -- and realize that he knows less than you do on the subject. He's not getting paid to do this show, he'll tell you. The $5 cover you paid that the door will go to the West Mempis Three fund, how much, he doesn't know. If you ask him who was killed, he'll tell you some kid and these three others were arrested because they were wearing black and listened to metal -- the website says three boys were killed. You ask him if there is literature somewhere he says he's not sure but he'll find the coordinator of the show to ask.
Punk shows are a hub for kids who want so desperately to be well informed and politically active but who instead get propaghanda like Jello Biafra.

Not knowing everything at a benefit for something you believe in does not benefit anyone!
