star, fate and pneuma

Oh, Portland! I went down last weekend for Minibike Winter 2008 to participate in good old fashioned fun.

I really love that city and the people there. I love that this totally ridiculous, chaotic and good-spirited culture of Zoobomb and assorted bike hooliganism has grown out of people looking for good, free fun, taking advantage of existing infrastructure designed to promote the ideals of capitalism and ordered society and using them for total madhat events. Zoobomb can only exist in Portland, because Portland happens to have a zoo on top of a quiet residential hill and thus cheap and easy-to-access mass transit to the top of the hill. Quiet streets and a free(ish) ride to the top so that people can pack their incredibly impractical bikes/longboards/luges/dirt-surfers/assacres/minis/freakbikes/etc to the top, and just bomb.

Amazing.

Minibike Winter blew my mind for the second time as the awesome just kept escalating. I think it keeps getting better because every time I go to Portland I know more people and have more friends there, so I don't feel shy and cling to a pack of Canadians. instead I can take off and rip around with the locals and just have fun.
Anyways. Maybe I'll link to pictures.

The things I brought back from PDX: 4 cans of Sparks, a liter of Balvenie scotch and pneumonia.

Yes! Pneumonia!

So I'm on day three of a fever and got to go to the ER last night at like 3am when I confessed to the nurse on the BC Nurse Line that I had been having "teeth-chattering" chills and shakes and she went and made me promise to go to the hospital. So, lung x-rays at 4 am and a lot of reading in a small quiet room and I got a prescription for a week's worth of antibiotics and an order to rest. I got seven (7) pills - one a day - and they cost nearly sixty bones. Fuck.

I had really really horrible fever-induced nightmares, too.

And finally, my little bro visited for like 4 days! We haven't really spent any time together before, ever, so this was so awesome. He's a totally cool guy, got along really well with my roommates and coworkers and he fell in love with Vancouver a little, which I'm totally stoked about. I invited him to spend the summer here when he's done school, and I think he's considering it. So rad.

that's about the extent of my energy for the day.
xoxo
