Good afternoon.

As we are all here today in honor of the graduation of the class of 2006, I can’t help but think back to freshman year. I will never forget the first day of high school. Going in, I remember thinking that these 4 years would never end. And up until about a month ago, I would have still agreed with this statement. But standing here today, I am amazed. We are finished. Those 4 years that we were all dreading so much are over. And little did we know when we first began; those 4 years would change our lives.

The class of 2006 has left its mark on Lake Placid High School. We have produced amazing athletes, musicians, scholars, artists, and leaders. And as we have left a mark on it, Lake Placid High School has left a mark on all of us. I will not be surprised if in 10 years most of the students here today can still hum the fight song or remember their favorite football cheer. Congratulations not only to us, the students, for achieving success in the past 4 years, but also to the teachers and faculty. Their achievement is seeing us here. And it is thanks to them that we are all the people we are today.

As we venture into the future, we must keep in mind that we won’t always succeed. In fact, we will probably fail a few times. But it is what we do with that failure that matters most. A good friend once told me not to focus on the mistakes of my past. They are done. I can’t go back and change my choice, or fix anything. But I can make the best of the situation. Make the mistake. Learn from the mistake. Then move on. Grow through the obstacles and mistakes that you encounter rather than letting them conquer you. The hard times in life are what shape us to be the people that we are. Instead of fearing these inevitable letdowns, continue to set your goals high. We have been prepared for life after high school. Now its time to use what we have learned.

In the words if Julius Cesar “veni, vendi, vici.” I came, I saw, I conquered. We have completed what we set out to do 4 years ago. Congratulations class of 2006.

in other news, this weather drives me nuts. grrr.... *meditating*
