This was great. A melding of my two teenage obsessions in one cohesive story. Two characters that really do fit together. The General who was reborn and the beautiful girl that lived for war. Burned for it. (All of them told her they were worried about her in the series, worried about how she would be able to live after the war was over; worried about what peace would do to her).

I think you titled this so well. Because yes, yes they will always choose fire over ice.

And synced together, thinking together, fighting together, they shatter the way clear and they don’t look back.
___

(They both know: the Yeerks were never prepared for this.)

They burn.

Great piece!

Thank you so much! They’re two of my obsessions too and combining them was a delight.

The General who was reborn and the beautiful girl that lived for war.
Hee, you wouldn’t believe how excited I was when I started plotting. Funny thing is, I didn’t even consider Michael’s Rath persona at first, this being pre-S1 ending. But the general inside him still came to the surface anyway. And it all worked out because it provided some direction and (Marco style? ;)) strategy for his and Rachel’s recklessness

I think you titled this so well. Because yes, yes they will always choose fire over ice.
Funny, but it’s one of the things about the fic I was most excited about-the title came before most of the story did, and it all panned out from there. It’s just so them, isn’t it? I’m psyched that someone likes it as much as I do :D

All of them told her they were worried about her in the series, worried about how she would be able to live after the war was over; worried about what peace would do to her It’s both the tragedy and the strength of her ( ... )

I'm not sure why I can't remember that ep...maybe I need to get out my DVDs again.

Why'd Rachel run away? That's the only part I'm unsure about.

Anyway, love the crossover idea :)

Independence Day is the 15th ep in season one. It’s the one where Michael’s stepdad’s abuse goes too far. There’s a scene where Michael attempts to hitchhike out of Roswell but then he changes his mind. Obviously, he does not in this fic ; )
It’s the one with the beautiful Michael/Maria moment where she takes him in out of the rain after he’s been kicked out-remember now? :D In any case I’m glad to give you an excuse to rewatch it!

Ah, the exact reason Rachel left. To be honest, I just ran with the what-if: that Rachel just snapped one day; that she couldn’t stand being the dark side of the Animorphs anymore. That she could no longer stand being what she tells us she’d turned into in book 48*-the shock absorber to protect the other Animorphs’ innocence. So, in this story, the reason she left was simply herself , because she realized how very dark she could get around the others. Even around Tobias ( ... )

This was amazing! Normally I'm not partial to AU or fan fiction at all, but the two characters really are perfectly matched for something like this and from what I can remember of Roswell and of Animorphs, you did an awesome job keeping the characters true.

Bravo!

Oh, wow, thank you very much! *smiles and blushes* I’m so glad you gave it a chance and like it the way you do.

I fussed over their characterization most of all, so that’s equally awesome to hear! :D It was tricky (but fun), keeping them in-character, as they were so far removed from their worlds and dealing with each other.

Michael and Rachel really are a match made in…Yeerk hell ;)
