The Musketeers 2.07: In a time of inconvenience

Mar 01, 2015 02:03

This week I’m coming to you live from the ancestral homelands of the north-east, although you probably can’t tell from this angle. In practical terms, this means that I can’t make silly graphics today and thus am reliant on silly graphics I made from this week’s teaser clip. Fortunately, however, I can still have silly thoughts, so here are some ( Read more... )

I actually winced at the sword-blow to the phallic vegetables. *g*

What with Rochefort being the only person allowed (nay, welcomed) into the King's bedroom, and the whole engagement scene at the end, it seems like the writers are going out of their way to please fans of that ship... bit of a wasted effort as I don't think there are any!

I don't think the writers are trying to ship Louis and Rochefort deliberately, but since the real-life Louis was bisexual and had "intense emotional attachments" with male courtiers, strangely this seems to be a case of historical accuracy in action!

"Henri Coiffier de Ruzé, Marquis of Cinq-Mars, who was later executed for conspiring with the Spanish enemy in time of war. Tallemant described how on a royal journey, the King "sent M. le Grand [de Cinq-Mars] to undress, who returned, adorned like a bride"

Well, Rochefort is conspiring with the Spanish... and I'd pay money to see him dressed as a bride...

The expressions on the Musketeers' faces were amusing enough when he was just wearing the ring. Faced with Rochefort in full bridal regalia, I fear their heads might explode...

"Find the preparatory sketches!" declares Athos hilariously.

How did I miss that when watching? ROFLMAO!

If The Really Obvious Detectives doesn't get commissioned as a series, perhaps Athos can form some sort of Artistic Emergency Squad, leaping into action whenever crimes against painting occur...

That was an awesome summary of an awesome episode.

The series has definitely been sponsored by the Czech Carrot Farmers Association. And, for how often it shows up in the countryside, the Czech Maize-Growers Association.

And Louis has a total crush on Rochefort.

Ah yes, the Czech Maize-Growers Association: always on hand to make any outdoor scene a little more corny...

One of the highlights of my week is finding your wonderful summaries, it's a rare gift to mix such excellent and astute observations with such a lovely dose of spicy humour that never fails to make me laugh. Thank you!

As ever, a brilliant review - for an awesome episode - I so look forward to reading it each week. Lots going on as you said. I think that Tamla and Luke do an excellent job with their characters and I liked Perdita Weeks as 'Not Louise'! Just hoping TPTB don't decide to kill off Constance before the end of the series! I know I would miss Tamla/Constance and I have a feeling there are many, many other fans who would feel the same way too. Bring on Episode 8, looks like it will be a cracker!

I don't think they'll kill off Constance, will they? I know she dies in the original book but it's not as if they're following any other aspect of the book closely, so fingers crossed she's safe, at least for now...
