Stick out our tongues at the people we meet

This week has only just begun, and it's already grotty. Time for a suitably distracting meme, I think.

The "Little Things in Life" meme by burge

List five little things which make you happy/satisfied/give you pleasure. Don't go for the obvious ones like second-hand bookshops, warm baths, ice cream, wanking, seeing a band live or whatever. Odd little ( Read more... )

The new coins make me happy too! I have 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 now, but the 50 and £1 have been eluding me... A woman in the post office the other day (not a random one, an employee, I should specify) claimed there were new £2 coins as well, but I'm sceptical as I haven't seen those on the pictures.

According to the Royal Mint website, there seem to be a couple of new £2 coin designs, but they are just special editions and don't match the other coins: one's commemorating Charles Darwin and the other one Robert Burns. I like the Burns one in particular, although full judgment must be reserved until I'm holding one in my hand...

I'm amused by the Darwin coin, with beardy Darwin and the chimp staring at one another.

Though I can't help but feel it perpetuates the misbelief that humans are descended from apes. No, humans and apes are both descended from a common, primate ancestor, in the same way horses and zebras are descended from a common ancestor. No one ever says that horses are descended from zebra.

OK, /rant

Quite so. I like that they are moving away from "standard" designs a little.

...my little NA-reading heart LOLed slightly at there being such a thing as a five-pound coin...

Oo. Now, see, that's how to get people interested in their coinage. Not that I haven't had fun chasing after the American state quarters as they come out, but they don't look nearly so fun as the new British coins, plus, all of the one denomination.

Hee on the "genius" mug. (I have one that says "the whizz kid" at home, but I don't trust work with it, so mine is just a fairly conventional one from a supplier.)

Sometimes people at work wander off with my mug, mistaking it for one of the communal ones, and then I have to resist the temptation to storm around the office, demanding that it be returned to its rightful owner.

Perhaps it is possible to love crockery a little too much.

Thank you for ZQ's belly and extra arm, they have brightened my day and been added to my creepy stalker collection. :)

Those coins look like something I'd keep around.

I don't like spending the new $5 bills when I get them because they're pink and purple and green. Somehow, it works. *shrugs*

Momo the hamster's page is possibly the most adorable thing I have ever seen. The section on his balls! Complete with illustrations and related conversation with pet store employee. Priceless.

I think those are amazing coin designs. We've had a lot of different fancy ones here in Canada (I think the most recent being the Olympic ones), but none that are as awesome conceptually as that.

And that is an amazingly muscular half-naked man somersaulting out of the twilight. Dancer thighs are incredible.

I wish I was able to end more phone conversations with the line "Don't worry. Balls!", I must admit.

At least Canada has loonies and toonies, which are delightfully silly names, at least to my foreign ears.
