I have watched some television! Spoilers for all shows below.
Community:
Weird but enjoyable. Although, doesn't that sum up all of Community? I love seeing the group interact as a group, and I love when the characters show the complete and un-ironic love they have for each other. I miss that. That's what attracted me to the show in the first place, and while I feel it's been slightly lacking so far this season, it's funny and clever enough to keep me hanging around for more.
Things I didn't like: The airconditioning plot. Not because I don't like what they're doing with Troy's character, but the part where the whole air-conditioning unit of Greendale seems unrealistic. And like, I get that Community bends conventions, that's almost the whole point, but I mean unrealistic by Greendale standards. How can they even afford all that? But then, I think- this is the show that brought us Halloween zombies. An entire fabricated night school of conspiracies. A school-wide blanket fort. So maybe this isn't my problem. I don't even know anymore.
But there were still things I loved! Trying to remember them now...
- The drag queen Hawthorne Wipes song! I hope the full version of that's floating out there on the internet somewhere, omg.
- Troy's line when he asks Pierce "Why do you want his pant's off?" with the suggestive eyebrows.
- Jeff's shut uuuuupp to Britta. I think Britta is amazing, but at this point I think all the 'Britta's the worst' is mostly friendly bickering
- The Dean's Tron suit. Which he didn't know was a Tron suit.
- The TAG. INSPECTOR SPACETIME. Troy and Abed's terrible but enthusiastic British accents! WATCH OUT, BLORGONS. Troy and Abed's totally suave reaction to the hot girl at the door. "Hey girl, how you livin'?" "PEW"
Parks and Rec:
Really fun! Not amazing, but enjoyable. I had to literally run away from the computer at one point, I think it was when Leslie started trying to interrupt Ben and the journalist lady from talking to each other. THE MOTTS, I CANNOT HANDLE THEM. (I'm serious, my reaction to when a character is getting too embarrassing is to jump up from my seat and run to a different room. I don't even pause the show. Cannot. handle.) The Leslie characterisation was very S1, which was disappointing, because she seems to have matured since then. But I like that they are still acknowledging the whole Ben/Leslie thing. And it led to one of my favourite scenes of the episode, where Leslie apologised to Ben and we got to see all that amazing chemistry they had at the end of S3. Also, Adam Scott's bed hair. :D
Other things I loved:
- I support Tom/Lucy, if only because Natalie Morales is amazing and I feel bad for not appreciating her when she was on White Collar (she replaced Diana, okay? She had an unfair disadvantage). Also, I want Tom to be happy, what with Entertainment 720 failing. Although, was he really that stupid to spend all the money and not realise he needed income?
- Leslie's interaction with the citizens of Pawnee, and how it's totally functional and hilarious with the cult leader, and booking the end of the world so it doesn't clash with events on her calendar.
- Andy/April. I don't know where this relationship can go from here, but I think it's so sweet/ fun for now. And the ending scene was lovely, maybe cause it felt more like a move than a sitcom.
Overall, I'd say Parks and Rec is really hitting the nail on the head with the unironic-love-and-affection that Community's missing a bit right now, which is honestly all I'm looking for. These are my feel-good shows But I have faith, in any case. And patience.
Misfits:
I was waiting to finish my exams for this one, although I think they've only aired one episode so far. SO good! I was worried the show would falter without Nathan but I LOVE the new guy Rudy so much. His power is so great, and they've already established such an interesting character. The alter-egos that want to have sex with each other, and are just the slightest bit gay is just the icing on the cake, really. The new powers for the other characters are interesting, and we'll have to see how they play out. All the canon sex!swap for Curtis! Kelly's a rocket scientist, whooo go Kelly. Alisha can put herself in other people's shoes... useful, I guess. Simon can see the future? Or he can see when he might kill himself? That'll get cleared up soon, anyway.
Just- that was a really satisfying episode. Love love love. 45 minutes, so already much longer than the comedies I've been watching. Gritty and fast paced, which is just as good considering we're only getting 6 episodes again (as far as I know). Ahh, British TV.
Yes, GOOD STUFF. God, I love being about to watch TV without feeling guilty. I'm just going to go and bask in all the free time I suddenly have. /rolls around
I'm also halfway through Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, which is an achievement let me tell you, considering it took me 4 months to read the first chapter. Very interesting, although the structure throws me off a bit (two stories being told at the same time, one is the "actual" book and the other is the story of the book itself being written during a roadtrip around Ukraine. And the author, Jonathan, is one of the characters, but I think both stories are actually fictional, not biographical. IDEK). At this rate I'll be finished by this Friday, which is.... amazing. \o/
