Would the hold we had grow distant or the embrace become much stronger?

I made this public since someone linked it. :op

After The Dance by me

I had a dream
I wrote a song
That opened up your ears.
It said you're right,
It said I'm wrong,
It admitted all my fears.
And in the dream
You sang along -
Somehow you knew all the words.
You danced with me
Right up 'til dawn.
And the rest is all a blur.

But when the band stopped playing
I looked into your eyes
And what they were saying
Wasn't hard to recognize.

When we danced,
It was amazing.
Our hearts were racing,
And God knows we had
Every chance
To twirl on that floor,
But we wanted more
Than the time we had
On our hands.
We walked away after the dance.

Once in awhile
I'll hear your name,
And the music starts again.
I start to smile,
It feels the same
As when we moved back then.
In my mind,
Alone I sway,
And the thoughts inside begin
Of what I lost
And what I gained -
The beginnings and the end.

How would life be different
Had the song gone on much longer?
Would the hold we had grow distant
Or the embrace become much stronger?

When we danced,
It was amazing.
Our hearts were racing,
And God knows we had
Every chance
To twirl on that floor,
But we wanted more
Than the time we had
On our hands.
We walked away

After the dance,
A phone call or two,
A message from you
Saying maybe it's all for the best
You took your hand off my shoulder
And your head off my chest.

Memories are all I have left.

When we danced,
It was amazing.
Our hearts were racing,
And God knows we had
Every chance
To twirl on that floor,
But we wanted more
Than the time we had
On our hands.
We walked away after the dance.

You walked away after the dance.

We walked away after the dance.
