Worldbuilding Exchange 2020

Dear Author,

Thank you for agreeing to write for me. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Since you probably don't know me, here's a quick primer on my likes and dislikes which might come in handy.

Likes: I usually prefer gen, especially focusing on platonic and familial relationships. I’m interested in found families, biological families, younger siblings, sidekicks, friends who become lovers and friends who don’t. I'm always down for outsider POVs, especially ones who are ignorant or unreliable narrators. For the purposes of this exchange, that can include anything from newspaper articles and academic writings to stories narrated by the preverbal man on the street. Feel free to play around in terms of genre and formatting. When it comes to canon characters, I'm always a big fan of character studies and have serious respect for ones with actual plot since that’s something I tend to struggle with.

Based on my selected fandoms, it looks like this year's running theme is super heroes and superpowers. When it comes to this genre, I'm a big fan of super identity shenanigans; the physical and psychological tole of heroism; and the public's response to heroes and powered individuals.

Dislikes: I am not into romantic plots and tropes, or graphic sex. I have a huge embarrassment/humiliation squick and have issues with infidelity, so please avoid those.

Do not want: Smut, incest, student/teacher sexual relationships, character bashing, graphic depictions of sex or bodily harm.

Miraculous Ladybug
Characters: Adrien Agreste, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Master Fu, Tikki, Plagg, Original Character(s), Any/None
World building Aspects: Legal implications of akumatization; the wider world's take on the crisis in Paris; superhero fan culture; mental health effects on people of Paris

I am just fascinated by the wider implications of things just glossed over in the show. What crimes could Hawkmoth be charged with? What do our heroes think about all the movies and merchandise based on their exploits? Do they get a cut? How do the people of Paris feel about what's going on? Are there support groups for former akuma? What about their victims? What is it like to live in a city where any negative emotion can make you a target for a super villain?

Of the named characters, Adrien is my favorite, but I enjoy them all. I also wouldn't mind something featuring Hawkmoth/Gabriel Agreste or Alya Cesaire. I know fandom likes to refer to Marinette as Mari in fic, but her canon preferred name is Marinette and I'd appreciate it if you'd just stick with that.

Misfits (TV 2009)
Characters: Alisha Danials, Curtis Donovan, Kelly Bailey, Nathan Young, Simon Bellamy, Original Character(s), Any/None
World building Aspects: Government response to superpowers; legal implications of superpowers; others effected by the storm; superpower support groups

A bunch of people get random, and occasionally traumatic, super powers. You know there has to be some kind of response to that which goes beyond what the main characters see. I'd be interested in something which intersects with the lives of the ASBO five, but isn't necessarily about them or from their POV. I loved the wacky, irreverent, and fairly dark tone of the show and would like something which captures that spirit. As far as I'm concerned, nothing after the season 2 finale actually happened.

The Umbrella Academy (TV)
Characters: Hargreeves Children; Reginald Hargreeves; Original Character(s), Any/None
World building Aspects: Growing up in the Umbrella Academy; superhero fan culture; other special babies

I have so many questions about things the show only hints of. Just how messed up was the Hargreeves' children's training? How did the media/police/public react to their super heroics? Who were they fighting? How did people react with Five disappeared or Ben died? What kind of interactions did the kids have with the public? Did people write fic about them? What happened to the special kids who didn't get in?

DC (Comics
Characters: Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, Dick Greyson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Original Character(s), Any/None
World building Aspects: Superheroes and super villains on social media; memes about superheroes; measures of protection used by civilians; damage control; insurance policies

I love the Batfamily, Batgirls included. I would love to see an outsider POV on their super heroic activities. How annoying/traumatizing is it to live in a city where weirdly themed terrorist attacks happen regularly? What do the press and the internets have to say about the latest Robin? Who does the public suspect? Give me all the secret identity shenanigans.

She-ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)
Characters: Adora, Mara, Light Hope, Original Character(s), Any/None
World building Aspects: Etheria's magic; how She-ra works; mechanics of princesses; heart of Etheria project; She-Ra (the entity); The First Ones

This one is the odd one out, but what the heck. I want all the back story and I would especially love Adora's reaction to it. Who were the First Ones? Why did they turn Etheria into a weapon? Was Mara right or wrong to do what she did? Why were she and Adora the only ones who could use the sword? Can Adora be She-ra without it?
