Tyrion Lannister - A Portrait

It's been years since I have done fan art of any sort. I collect bits and pieces of fan art here and there, but, I've been trying to focus on more personal work as of late. But, I was recently presented with a trade for comic books from a friend I attended High School with and I thought it was super cool so that is how this portrait of Tyrion was created.

From George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' books and television series 'Game of Thrones', here is Tyrion Lannister. In the series his role is played by the wonderful Peter Dinklage, whose likeness is depicted here. A brilliant character that sadly faces many prejudices despite his brilliant mind and beautiful heart.

Since Game of Thrones is first and foremost about war, I wanted elements of the war and his roles included in a sort of symbolic imagery here. We have the 'war torn' banners of bitter rivals House Targaryen and House Lannister. (I chose not to create an exact depiction of the show's banners as that would be stepping a bit too much on trademarks for my liking). The direction of Tyrion's gaze is indicative to his roles and history with the two houses. The globes carved into arm rests on the chair has on one side, Westeros, and the other side Essos. The book in his hand is 'The Lives of Four Kings' which is considered a book that teaches the art of good rulership.

I'm quite a fan of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and 'Game of Thrones.' Though, I greatly think of the show, and mostly the books, a horror genre just as much as a high fantasy. I hope fellow fans enjoy the drawing as well. I've not much time to make more as I am booked with projects and commissions but if I do, it will probably be of my favorite character Sandor Clegane. I wouldn't rule out Daenerys, Arya, or Brienne, though. Or another book entirely such as Gormenghast.

9"x12" Graphite on smooth bristol.

(Traded for the 'Pretty Deadly' comic books. GORGEOUS.)
