From the other side of the pond

I'm English, so i obviously couldn't vote, i don't even live in America! However, the sheer amount of relief i feel that Obama is now in office is something i didn't expect.

I am proud of America, i really am. I'm proud that the single most racist country in the entire world have finally shown they've got an open mind and are finally willing to have change.

I am really pleased that there will not be a change to abortion laws. You can't imagine the sheer horror of illegal abortion will reap upon you if McCain/Palin had been put in place. I'm happy you won't have increased sales in coat hangers and whisky, and that there won't be bleeding females about from having mutilated their insides and child.

I'm also happy that the world will not be facing two new wars. You do not need to attack Russia nor Iran. Fighting Russia will affect the entire world, not just the US. Nukes will kill us all.

I'm so proud of America for voting for a man who drips with intellegence, compared to McCain, whose geography is a little off. There is no such Iraq/Pakistan border. Not to mention the other highly unintellegent comments made by both republicans.

You've done not only yourselves good, but the whole world. I'm really proud of you. Well done.

Not everyone listens to BBC, or pays much attention to how we are perceived in the world. I thought the comment above was a sobering example of just how bad it is, and the human capacity for forgiveness.

Other countries have made very poor decisions on leaders. The US invades those countries, or when that's not an option, sets up missile defense nets on their borders. Classy. *rolls eyes*

I was genuinely afraid this election. I was afraid that my daughter would be forced to dress a certain way, worship a certain way, or risk persecution. I was afraid we would piss off so many countries, that enough of them would get together to do things "The American Way". They'd march on in and say, "Look, you've pissed around long enough. You're going to hurt yourselves. Hand over the reins."

Right or wrong, that was going to be messy.

I don't know if Obama will be able to turn things around, I don't envy him for winning. I'm just grateful, and willing to roll up my sleeves, maybe get a little dirty, start cleaning this shit up.

He's asked for help, I'm willing to help. Looks like the world may be willing as well.

Thank you [Higher Power].
