Tomorrow the Foundation that owns my house and which acts as my landlord will be dropping in for a visit. The president and the property manager came by last week to check out the roof (we have bats preparing to overwinter in the attic and they want little one-way doors installed on all the points of egress) and remarked that my house is the nicest of the many they own. They wondered if they could bring the Foundation for a tour to show them where their money is being spent, and in hopes that seeing something so much nicer than they probably expect would inspire them to donate more. Of course I agreed. I am so grateful to the Foundation for thinking of me when this place opened up; they have others waiting for homes, but this one is just a perfect fit for me and my gratitude knows no bounds.
So I've been cleaning my already-clean house for a few days. I even went so far as to sweep the cellar, polish the wood floors, and wash all the brand-new windows with ammonia, inside and out. This place sparkles! They're coming at just the right time of day to catch the sun shining its brightest on the honey-colored wood and bright white tile. I am so proud of my little home, and I hope they like it.
ETA: Clarification - The one-way doors on the roof are at the request of the owner, not the bats. They might like them as well, but they haven't mentioned it.
