elavil

I went to my doctor and told him that I have highs and lows and that the lows are REAL low. I told him that when I'm low, I'll stay in my room for 3-4 days at a time and won't leave the house, answer the door, or answer my phone because I'm scared of human contact. I told him that I go through swings and that I was now on an upswing and that everything was going well and that I was really happy and social. I said that as long as I stay active and not thinking about things too much, I don't get scared and function fine. I said that I didn't think that it was a matter of lacking social skills because I can be completely fine when I'm on my upswings.

It seemed like he didn't even think about it before he said he could write me a prescription for someting to take when I started feeling low. I asked a bunch of questions about side effects, about whether I had to take them all the time or just when feeling low. He said that he'd start me out on a low dose and see where it went from there. The drug is elavil and I'm not sure about what to do from here. I got the prescription filled and I have the pills but I'm not sure whether I want to take them.

Some of my concerns about taking anti-depressants:
-will they alter my mood when I'm happy?
-will they change my personality?
-will they cloud my thinking?
-will I still be creative? (I highly value my creativity)

Does anyone out there who takes elavil give me advice please? Does anyone know of online message-boards where I can find out what other people are saying about the drug? I tried doing some online research on webmd and stuff, but I'd really like to hear from other people.
