Cosmo
We have a new pet. He is an Indian rose-ringed parakeet named Cosmo. He's very funny and he likes to talk. His favorite thing to say is "What are you doing?"
The cats sniffed his cage but are now studiously ignoring him. I'm not sure that would be true if they caught him out of his cage (so we put an extra clip on so he couldn't accidentally get out), but for now I know that he's safe around them if he is in the cage.
Last night we shut the door of the room he's in, turned off the ceiling fan, and opened his cage door. We coaxed him out for the first time by offering him peanuts. He climbed up my arm and sat on my head. Every time I took him off my head, he climbed right back up my arm.
Once he took off and flew all around the ceiling, got confused, banged into the drapes, and landed on a chair, but he's fine. We put him back in the cage. All in all, a good first outing.
Oh, he also nibbled on my ear, but not in a FUCK YOU, HUMAN way. I know how hard he can bite when he's mad, and that wasn't what he was doing.
All in all, a pretty successful outing. Eventually I hope to be able to take him out on the (screened) back porch once in awhile (supervised) so it can be sort of an aviary for him.
