(Yes, I changed it to 60k instead of 65k, mostly because it is a lot more realistic with how this book is moving.)
So I'm nearly finished with PTWT and I've been playing around with an idea for a new book. It's something that I always knew I'd write, but I'd never found characters I was willing to go there for. Now I have. SIX of them. And then I put it off a bit more, saying that I'd wait until their circumstances fell into place ... and I had my "ah ha!" moment today. So, yeah, no more procrastinating it. As soon as I'm finished with PTWT, I'm off on the new project. Check out this video. Can you guess what this book will have to do with?

Now, on to the review ...
I have to admit, it always takes me a bit to get into Ms. Vincent's werecat novels. Not really sure why, it's just the way it works. Not so, apparently, with her YA novel. From the very first page I was drawn into Kaylee's struggle and I liked her a lot (even if I didn't always agree with her thoughts or actions).
So, yeah, Kaylee is a bean sidhe (banshee) and she (surprise) can see when someone's going to die and screams her head off up to that point and immediately afterward. The first book in the trilogy covers her finding out the truth about herself while she's trying to deal with the fact that pretty girls around her keep dropping dead. Add to that, Nash (a VERY hot male bean sidhe) and she's got a lot on her mind.
I have to say that I was a little thrown off by how easily she gave in to Nash's attentions. To me, if he was known to go through the female population so easily (and I do have some theories on THAT), I wouldn't be so easily swayed even if he did seem like God's gift to women. But that's probably a personal thing.
Also, I found the character Todd really intriguing. He's a reaper and it's his job to take the souls of the dead (on time). The way that Nash knows him is revealed near the end of the book and it sets up the possibility (probability if we're going to be honest with ourselves) of a love triangle.
All in all, it was a really good read. I was moved very unexpectedly when there was a Big Reveal. I think a good part of that was because I was looking at it from the other perspective (not Kaylee's) and I know that I wouldn't have done anything different from what those particular characters did. Also, I found Emma to be great and I wish we had seen a little bit more of her (she was very conveniently grounded through the entire book). I'll definitely pick up the next one. 8/10
