two roads diverged in a yellow wood

we pulled through the first 5-day work week of the year after many short weeks in december due to leave / public holidays! yay for us! nonetheless, could sense that people in the office were getting restless by mid-week and wondering when the weekend would come. me included.
had a random good talk with not-boss on friday. thought it was very decent of him to seek my views on several "what if" scenarios concerning what could happen to me in the year ahead even though he wasn't obliged to. told him what i've consistently told the boss in the past year or so, and at the end of the chat, i think he more or less got my message. not sure if i managed to convince him about certain things, but at least now he knows what i think.
hai ... me and my career ending moves. :D
at least i'm honest, and this is really no spur-of-the-moment reaction on my part. have thought this through seriously and talked it through with ck as well. grab first think later may apply to shopping, but for me, the same philosophy doesn't apply to work. besides, my ultimate ambition (since i was 19) has nothing to do with climbing the corporate ladder.

have a totally unexpected work trip coming up really soon. i think we'll be spending more time in planes and airports getting to our destination than actually being there. this trip holds special meaning for me, because i'll get to finish what was started about 1.5 years ago. it's a rare opportunity to see things through given the short stints we have in each division, so yes, i'm stoked.
weather forecast: highs of 0 to 1°C and lows of -8 to -12°C. this is winter weather at its best. grrrrr (or rather, brrrrr?). i need boots to protect against frozen toes. why didn't i get a pair in hong kong?!?!?!

work, travel
