hullo october

this promises to be an exciting month, but there will probably be some difficult and awkward moments as well. if only the show can go on based on the decision of two people. but alas, we are entangled in tight social webs and traditions that we cannot run away from. this will be a long lesson of respecting differences, learning to compromise, making the most/enjoying whatever comes my way and patience. this can only make us stronger.

drove past chinatown recently and was greeted by the brightly-coloured lanterns in pretty shades of blue/pink/green flanking the road. it is that time of the year again, and the shopping malls are not letting us forget with all the mooncake fairs going on. i have never been a great fan of mooncakes. the only time i probably had a little craving for them was when i was still a student in the US and mooncakes were a precious commodity (scarcity-induced demand?). now, mooncakes have lost their appeal (except for the pretty packaging which makes for great eye-candy!) and i have probably eaten only 1/8 of a baked lotus paste mooncake so far. all the mooncakes i buy are for others, the quantities of which remind me of a particular print ad i've been seeing quite often (mother - 1 box, father - 1 box, father-in-law - 1 box, mother-in-law - 10000 boxes). haha.

in other news, the exercise routine started in september is coming along fine. have been jogging regularly and have rediscovered my stamina along the way such that i can comfortably jog 5km without stopping now. (no biggie for regular joggers ... but for someone who has not jogged for ages and has NEVER jogged more than 3.2km at a go before, this is progress!). was all psyched to up the distance with ck over the weekend, but he got hungry at the 3km mark and we had to stop to buy green tea and yan yan from the park kiosk. waaah, sad case. guess the aim now is to build up the jogging distance and complete at least one of the many 10km runs in a decent time next year. NEW YEAR RESOLUTION #1!
