Another productive day at work.
Weirdest thing happened at the end of the day. My counter-part at our competition HER (ha ha ha ha, I just did the HAL/IBM thing and it actually spells a word!) contacted us today to see if he and his team could have "a tour" of the "tracking database" I have been building and adding on to for the past 14 months. The last collection thing I did was for Peter's birthday. He was turning 50 and people who were his "friends" would not do it and I felt for all the odd personal things he would help people with that he deserved something. Oi. Collecting for people who are not invited is a tricky thing. I always felt that if you asked them for cash they should be able to have a piece of cake...co your cupcake thinking and presenting it at work is good. I would just keep it simple...something like we thought it would be nice tp give a coworker gift to "X"...those that want to will give you cash, those that don't will delete.

That's a tricky thing. I don't envy you. We've had problems with some of the younger employees going out to a party together, when one of our middle-aged employees just invites herself along--and then bails after only a little while. She's done this twice! Stupid. Why come in the first place if you think you'll get bored after five minutes, and realize how out of place you are? office "friend" politics can be tricky.
