Alright, I know this is the second update I've made today, but I felt it necessary to post this. Today at TKD I was sparring (practive fighting) an older man of considerable strength. During the match, this older mand finds it necessary and completely proper to kick me strait in the balls (an illegal striking area in tournament rules, what we are training for) with the entire strength of his leg. I fall to the ground writhing in pain and anger, but keeping both under control to keep the fight even. Mr. Hammersly sees this and doesn't even bat an eyelash. I get back up and continue fighting. This same opponent leaves his chest (a more than legal stiking area according to the above mentioned rules) open. I see this opening and strike with a front snap kick to the 4th & 5th ribs with a moderate amount of force. Mr. Hammersly sees it NOW necessary to chastise one of his students for poor conduct in a regulated match with the use of excessive force. I , understandabley, am rather upset at this for two reasons. One, that I get called out for doing something legal while my oppenent is ignored for both an illegal action with excessive force, and two, that this is not the first time such a thing has occured.
I realize that yes, I have had a tendency to raise the bar on my opponent in my past sparring matches, but this is a habit more or less broken. I give what I recieve. I also realize that before I was the only one to do something wrong in the match and that raising the intensity of the match was beyond my opponent. This occurrence, however, is unacceptable. I am more now than ever tempted to leave the Tower Club and find an alternate Tae Kwon Do do jang (school, for those not versed in the termonology). Mr. Hammersly has the right to run his school the way he likes it, but that doesn't mean I have to stay. Out.
