Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:

Genesis' body is imbued with Jenova cells from Project G. Since the Jenova cells he was given were taken from Gillian Hewley (not transferred through conception as with Angeal or injected directly into him as a fetus as with Sephiroth) the cells failed to infuse properly with his own, thus dubbing him a failure as he doesn't display anything unusual or enhanced about him upon his birth. But even so, later on he discovers that he has the power to create copies using the bodies of other people (as with the SOLDIER operatives that deserted with him). He also possesses the ability of flight (although he only has one black wing which sprouts from his left shoulder). This single wing of his can also be used in battle by summoning its feathers to act as small darts to pierce the enemy.

As with other SOLDIERs, Genesis has mako-enhanced strength, speed and senses. He is a well-trained swordsman and takes pride in his own abilities. In fact, despite his status as a "failure" by the Jenova Project, his skills are surprisingly to par with Sephiroth. Among the three First Class SOLDIERs during his time (him, Sephiroth and Angeal), he is the only one who uses magic extensively. His weapon, Rapier, can also channel his magic to become stronger. He can also make use of firearms, as one of his copies wields a gunblade. His preference leans towards making use of his sword, though.

When brought to his limit, Genesis can make use of magic to call out Apocalypse, an attack covering a set area, which brings down a wave of concentrated energy to quell his opponents.

Weapons: Rapier - a red broadsword decorated with runes. It also has a rapier-like ornate, guarded hilt.

Point in Canon: After his awakening under Midgar in Dirge of Cerberus' ending, when he takes flight.

Character Personality:

At the point of canon he has been taken from, Genesis' character is one that is split between devotion to the wishes of his Goddess and his own ambitions to become a hero and regain his SOLDIER honor. While Genesis had been a man of selfish ambition from the very beginning, with high childhood dreams such as sharing a Banora White apple with the hero Sephiroth and becoming a hero himself, a close encounter with the Planet's Goddess changes his approach to life. In the Genesis' last moments on screen before the final scene of Crisis Core, he is seen becoming quiet-almost contemplative to a degree. As he is plucked from his seat by Deepground SOLDIERs, he leaves behind his inscription of LOVELESS, Act 5 which leaves clues to the direction his character will take: Instead of the chaotic neutral mess of ambition and desperation he is throughout the game, the note implies that he would return to "become the dew that quenches the land, to spare the sands, the seas, the skies". According to the Ultimania, when asked by Deepground to join in their own rebellion, Genesis declines and seals himself away underneath Midgar's ruins. It gives light to how his views had changed since then.

Aside from this side of Genesis that develops after the game takes place, the redhead SOLDIER had always been a character full of drive. In Banora, despite being the landlord's son, Genesis had constantly been a competitive young man, winning awards and gaining accolades. Eventually, he would join SOLDIER and befriend Sephiroth, the hero he had once wanted to share his achievements with. Despite being friends with him, he had also constantly been a rival to him, constantly wanting to be recognized as a true equal to Sephiroth's greatness. But that would be destroyed upon realizing that he was engineered to fail-that his body can never be equal to either Angeal or Sephiroth, who were perfect specimen compared to him. This triggers Genesis' rebellion and attack against ShinRa.

Part of Genesis' thirst for reaching his goals comes with a few characteristics that work to his advantage: one is that he is a master manipulator, able to make battalions of SOLDIER operatives turn against ShinRa together with him. He is also able to convince Angeal to come with him, although it may have also been Angeal's conscious choice to go after Genesis to bring him back. He attempts to manipulate Sephiroth as well, but that ends in Sephiroth telling Genesis to rot. Despite his knack for manipulation and persuasion, Genesis also has an incredibly sharp tongue and won't hesitate to cut down anyone who displeases him. Being an only child of a rich family, it may not be a surprise at all that Genesis is used to things going his way.

Although Genesis was well-known for his charisma, being able to round up two fan clubs dedicated to him, he is surprisingly withdrawn, only sharing his thoughts and feelings freely with his two closest friends: Sephiroth and Angeal. It shows clearly in Crisis Core how Genesis seems to speak more openly when he is face to face with Sephiroth and Angeal rather than Zack. It takes a long while to fully gain Genesis' trust, even if he readily is amiable when it works to his advantage.

As revealed by the events of Crisis Core though, there is a darker dimension to Genesis' character. At his worst, he can be highly destructive to the point of waging war against the entire world. He is also a man who is easily consumed by jealousy and competition, as revealed in his rivalry with Sephiroth. This jealousy has spiraled out of hand while he was under the influence of the degradation, making him spill out unwanted truths without regard for friends. On top of that, while he does display a devotion to his Goddess while still maintaining a sense of ambition, at some points he becomes fatalistic, wanting to be true to the epic tale or his Goddess' call to a fault. This fatalism, much like his faith, contrasts starkly with his ambition and tendency to lean towards being destructive.

All in all, Genesis is an interesting mass of character traits: ambitious, charismatic and cunning, laced with a leaning for destructive tendencies. But at the same time, he is secretive, with firm beliefs in his Goddess and his own personal stance.
