[ Transmission #6: Chicago ]

May 14, 2009 12:57

I don't recognize the city, but it's apparent this is either a higher calibur illusion than before, or perhaps we're somewhat touching on another reality. [ Sasuke's not theorizing with any precision, and he appears to be dressed decently for the times, lighting a pipe as he communicates with the sphere. Time to blend in with a new population. ] ( Read more... )

Chicago?! [grins] It's a helluva--no wait, that's the tune for "New York, New York"... Never mind that.

Why d'you ask about Chicago?

[ Clearly, he should have asked the Doctor first. ]

I'm currently in it.

Well, I got that. I meant how?

Red Door in the hallways of 24. The unaltering hallways.

Ahhhh, I was wondering where that led to.

So, Chicago! What'd you want to know? Well, then again, I suppose that depends on the era...

[ He turns the camera out to record the passers-by, along with all the paraphernalia of the age. ]

Good enough for a rough estimate?

[takes in everything Sasuke's Sphere is showing him and he can't help but gape at it for a moment.]

Ah, well, "rough estimate" is more than accurate in this case. I'd say it's anywhere from the 1920s to 1940s judging from the style of clothing, the make of vehicles--even that pipe you've got there.

[ That gives him a frame to work off of, which makes him grateful. Doctor, you useful man-creature, you. ]

Twenty years, and suffering from interactivity.

[ As he says so, he's approached by a man in a suit who congratulates him on the races last Friday, and if it wasn't a shame Threadbare had pulled in second just by a nose? Sasuke makes some sort of sympathetic noise, which satisfies the man, who doesn't react to the sphere despite it floating at about eye-level. The man takes his leave, and Sasuke doesn't direct anything more to the Doctor for a long moment. ]

Orion seems to believe there's an exit other than the alley-way that brought me in. Somewhere in here is a way out. [ He believes this... even if knowing isn't something he can actually do. ]

[watches that exchange in silence, simply arching an eyebrow and wondering what in the world Sasuke's gotten himself into so far--but he doesn't ask. sometimes, it's better not to.]

Oh, I don't doubt that there is. Something like this, it'd be foolish not to have two exits in case of emergencies. But Chicago's a big town...never minding the fact that the ship's managed to cobble together something that's close to that era on Earth. Far better than the Captain's attempt at recreating Thebes.

[ As far as Sasuke is aware, he hasn't been present enough to have created this much of a ripple effect. ]

More accurate, but perhaps still orchestrated by him and his ideas.

It seems to be in keeping with the so-called accuracy of the encyclopaedias and other history books kept in the library.

What more can you tell me? How's it compare to the holograms in the holo-suites?

[ He begins to walk, talking as discreetly to the sphere as he can. These people were paying enough attention to be suspicious of someone addressing thin air. Between artful puffs on his pipe, a rather distasteful thing, he answers. ]

The people occupy space, and react consistently to what they apparently don't expect. The surroundings don't appear to cover imposters; what you see appears to be what you do indeed get.

[ He smooths the suit, to demonstrate another property. The clothing is interactive, which hasn't so much been the case before. ]

Completely interactive surroundings and clothing. The ship's system's learning... Or perhaps Ganymede's improved since he first started mucking about with the holographic projection controls--or the man's been playing ignorant the entire time.

Riku makes a valid point. This may be it's own sincere reality, so to speak.

Hmm, I've thought of that possibility. It's own pocket dimension... But these things aren't normally so easy to just...walk into. Not that jumping or running into it would make it any easier.

I don't have the means to explain why, or why not.
